CAIRO – 7 February 2022: The Ministry of Interior issued a decree Monday to deport a Syrian national named Mostafa Mohamed al-Mohamed Zein "for the public interest." The ministry had issued a decree in January to deport three foreigners "for reasons pertinent to general security," as reported by the Egyptian Gazette. Those are Mashad Ahmed Alaa El Din, born on May 10, 1997; Mohamed Hussein Mohamed Mozeibar, born on May 1, 1997; and Atino Baloogan, born on April 2, 1976. The former two are from Bangladesh, while the latter is from Nigeria.

The minister asserted in his speech that Egypt is keen on voicing the concerns and aspirations of the African continent during COP 27 it is hosting in Sharm El Sheikh in November. Shokry added that the past few years are an embodiment of the severe impact of climate change on Africa, in spite of its very subtle contribution to the phenomenon. In that context, the minister pointed out to the small amount of funding directed to developing countries to combat climate change as well as their limited access to the necessary technology.

CAIRO – 6 February 2022: Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy told press Sunday that the preparations for moving to the New Administrative Capital included digitizing 3.8 million documents in collaboration with the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology. In a similar context, the Ministry of Finance aims to complete the development and digitization of the customs system in Egypt by the end of next June, according to a statement by the ministry. Finance Minister Mohamed Maait stated in January that the Ministry of Finance has made great strides in modernizing and mechanizing the customs system by modernizing the legislative structure by issuing the new customs law and its executive regulations, and implementing the “single window” system. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held summit talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday morning at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency Bassam Rady, said that the Chinese president valued the positive development brought on via the comprehensive strategic partnership between both nations – especially in the economic and trade fields. Chinese companies enjoy a good reputation in Egypt, Sisi said, adding that they are one of the most important sources of foreign direct investment and advanced technological expertise in some Egyptian economic sectors. Sisi also discussed enhancing cooperation in communications, information technology, and electric cars, as well as maximizing cooperation between health care providers in the two countries to transfer China’s expertise in combating the coronavirus pandemic. The two presidents agreed on the importance of the role that the Suez Canal Economic Zone plays in promoting China’s “Belt and Road” initiative and supporting its achievement of its desired goals, especially through the Egyptian-Chinese zone for economic and trade cooperation.

The Egyptian Public Prosecutor referred, on Saturday, businessman Mohamed al-Amin to the Criminal Court on charges of human trafficking for molesting and threatening seven young girls. The investigations also found that Amin maintained a daily presence in the house where the incident occurred on successive days. Egypt police arrested Amin from his villa in Cairo on charges of human trafficking and acts punishable by law against girls in an orphanage that he founded in Beni Suef governorate, Upper Egypt. State-owned media reported that the arrest came following a report to police, where two girls accused Amin of molesting them. The police filed a case with the incident and referred it to the Public Prosecution to conduct further investigations.

CAIRO - 2 February 2022: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly started a tour on Saturday to inspect projects that are being carried out in New Alamein city, accompanied by a number of ministers. Major projects are implemented in New Alamein city including Alamein towers, downtown area, area of universities, heritage city and residential zone. Madbouli said on Saturday that the political leadership attaches great importance to the construction and development processes in the New Alamein city. During an inspection tour of the New Alamein city, the premier listened to a detailed explanation from Minister of Housing Assem el Gazzar on the development projects being established in the city. Gazzar, for his part, said the development projects in the city cover three main sectors, namely facilities, services and construction.

On Thursday, Egypt condemned in the strongest terms a drone attack on the UAE. The UAE Air Force announced it has intercepted and destroyed three drones on Thursday. In a statement from the Foreign Ministry, Egypt affirmed its strong rejection of terrorist violations that undermine the pillars of security and stability in the Arab region. At the same time Egypt also reiterated its full support for the UAE in the measures it takes to protect its security and stability, and the safety of its citizens and residents.

(Reuters) -A stunning last-minute strike by substitute Alex Berenguer handed Athletic Bilbao a shock 1-0 win over Real Madrid, eliminating them from the Copa del Rey in the quarter-finals on Thursday. CAIRO- 4 February 2022: Egypt would send Lebanon urgent relief aid to face the repercussions it is witnessing recently, announced Egyptian Nevin El-Kabbaj, Vice President of the Egyptian Red Crescent Society and Minister of Social Solidarity on Thursday. The Minister directed the Egyptian Red Crescent and the Ministry to prepare an urgent medical and food aid to Lebanon, according to a statement from the Ministry. The aid includes 100 tons of relief and food items (blankets, mattresses, foodstuffs), and 250 tons of medical supplies (masks and medicines), besides other aid provided by other governmental agencies. The World Bank said in June 2021 that “Lebanon is enduring a severe and prolonged economic depression,” adding “the economic and financial crisis is likely to rank in the top 10, possibly top 3, most severe crises episodes globally since the mid-nineteenth century.”

Wednesday’s drone attack was claimed by little-known “True Promise Brigades”, citing UAE interference in Yemen and Iraq as justification, according to U.S.-based SITE Intelligence Group, which follows militant websites. The Houthis had focused cross-border assaults at Saudi Arabia but extended them to the UAE last month after Emirati-backed local forces joined fighting against the group in energy-producing regions. UAE authorities did not immediately respond to a Reuters’ query on the origin of Wednesday’s attack or the group’s claim. Tehran has not directly commented on the UAE attacks but has called for a political solution to the Yemen crisis. The UAE largely reduced its military presence in Yemen in 2019 and has been engaging with Tehran under de-escalation efforts largely driven by economic priorities.

CAIRO – 3 February 2022: The management of the Aswan International Women Film Festival decided to grant the Somali Hibaq Osman the Note Award for achievement in the field of women’s issues, and to honor her at the opening ceremony of the festival's sixth edition that will be held from February 23 to 28. Osman was also appointed as a Senior Fellow at the James MacGregor Burns Leadership Academy, Churchill College, University of Cambridge. Ambassador Mervat el-Talawy noted that Hibaq Osman led the global campaign for justice for the "Women of Comfort" - Korean women forced into sexual slavery during the Japanese occupation in the 1940s - by working with survivors and relatives. Moreover, Osman led a project aimed at initiating the reconciliation process in the Horn of Africa, by bringing together 30 organizations and 60 representatives from across the region. The project brought Somali women from warring clans to work together for the first time.

CAIRO- 3 February 2022: Germany would give Egypt 400,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine as a gift on Friday, said ambassador Günter Sautter، the Deputy Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations, in a meeting with Egyptian Ambassador to Germany Khaled Galal. This gift comes in light of the bilateral relations between both countries, he added, noting that Egypt obtained nearly 4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines from Germany, either through the bilateral framework or through the COVAX facility. Earlier this month, Egypt received 667,100 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from Belgium and Germany via COVAX in cooperation with GAVI Alliance, said Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the Health Ministry spokesman in a statement. This comes within the state's plan to diversify and expand the provision of coronavirus vaccines, in order to preserve the state's gains in addressing the pandemic. On January 28, 2022, the Cairo International Airport received 4 million coronavirus vaccine doses from the United Kingdom, British Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bayley said.
