CAIRO - 24 March 2022: Egypt imports 100 million barrels of oil per year, according to the Prime Minister, Moustafa Madbouli. Madbouli added that the cost of a barrel of oil was $60 a few months ago, and it has reached $120 now; due to the Russo-Ukrainian war. The Prime Minister appealed to citizens to rationalize consumption. CAIRO – 23 March 2022: Egypt has submitted a request to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to start negotiations about a new program that seeks to support Egyptian state’s plans of national comprehensive economic reform, the Egyptian Cabinet said. In a statement, the Cabinet said the program, which comes in light of the Russia-Ukraine crisis’s impact on global economy, may include additional funding for Egypt. Also, the Egyptian government aims to continue efforts to implement the necessary economic and structural reforms to ensure the preservation of the path of strong, balanced and sustainable economic growth, Saad said. CAIRO – 20 March 2022: The Ministry of Transport stated Saturday that a new batch of trains to be operated on the LRT, which began pilot operation a few days ago, has arrived, raising the number of delivered units to 18 up from 12. Egypt has signed a contract with a Chinese company to supply 22 trains for the LRT, planned to transport 500,000 passengers per day as it connects Salam City with 10th of Ramadan City through the New Administrative Capital (NAC). The LRT will be operated by a French company for 15 years. He elaborated that the project will serve various social segments, and that it will begin operation over phases. The other under-progress projects carried out by Egypt are the high-speed electric train, the monorail, and the fourth metro line located in Al Haram Street.

CAIRO – 20 March 2022: Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Abdel Aty stated Saturday that the introduction of the canal carrying agricultural wastewater from western the Delta to Matrouh's Al Hammam treatment plant will be completed in a year. The canal will stretch over 114 kilometers, with 22 kilometers of that distance being in the form of pipes. The progress rate of the plant is 22 percent as pumping stations have been accomplished by 25-43 percent. The ministry also rehabilitated 60 kilometers of canals in the area, and placed 15 pumping stations. Speaking of Bahr Al Baqar Wastewater Treatment Plant launched in 2021, the completion rate of the two canals transporting treated water to land to be reclaimed in North and Central Sinai is nine percent.

CAIRO – 12 March 2022: The Cabinet's media center denied news reports about changing basic commodities listed in ration cards due to a shortage of goods. The center said in a statement on Saturday that it communicated with the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, which refuted the news as "groundless." All supply commodities are available, the ministry said, adding large amounts are pumped daily at all outlets. It mentioned "Ahlan Ramadan" commodities fair will be launched next week in different governorates with greater discounts on goods. It urged all citizens not to be deceived by such reports and to immediately contact the ministry if they have any query.

The Egyptian embassy in Bucharest said on Wednesday urged all Egyptians who crossed the Ukrainian borders to take the buses heading for Bucharest, after the Romanian authorities decided to secure buses for free to transport those coming from Ukraine at the border access points. CAIRO – 11 March 2022: Egypt has strongly condemned the attack on the Riyadh Oil Refinery by a drone, said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement on Friday. “Egypt reiterates its total condemnation of these terrorist acts of sabotage that target vital facilities and the security and safety of energy supplies in the Kingdom, the statement read. Egypt renews its stand by Saudi Arabia in measures it is taking to protect the kingdom’s security and sovereignty in the face of these despicable terrorist acts, the statement continued.

Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang said that the two countries are cooperating to establish the largest cold storage facility for vaccines and serums in Africa. Furthermore, the ambassador disclosed that China has been Egypt’s largest trading partner in the past eight years. He added that Chinese investments in Egypt have also continued their business despite the coronavirus pandemic. Moreover, Liqiang noted that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries has reached $19bn, an increase of 37.3%. Additionally, 240,000 buses will be converted from gasoline to natural gas, which will contribute to achieving common development goals in Egypt.
