The Tourism and Antiquities Ministry and Luxor Governorate are preparing opening activities for the upcoming Avenue of Sphinxes event in the coming weeks. The celebrations came as governmental officials represented by the Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy and Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled al-Anani visited Luxor to follow up on the projects to revive the Avenue of Sphinxes. Excavation work continues in the Avenue of Sphinxes in Luxor Governorate, with 98 percent completed in preparation for the grand celebration expected at the end of this month. The officials also inspected the development done on the existing fountain and the construction of squares in the path of the Avenue. In January the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry started a project to restore 29 sphinxes at Luxor’s Karnak Temple.

Zoomcar has had a platform for renting self-drive cars in India since 2013, which enables its customers to rent cars upon their request, either by the hour, day, week or month. The Zoomcar platform includes more than 7,000 vehicles in five countries. “Egypt has low rates of car owners, and a growing number of people who want to move around freely and at affordable prices, which is an opportunity for us,” said Greg Moran, CEO and Co-Founder of Zoomcar. JERUSALEM (AP) — Egypt’s national carrier Sunday made its first official direct flight to Israel since the two countries signed an historic 1979 peace treaty as an EgyptAir jet landed at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport. The airline’s affiliate, AirSinai, has for decades operated flights to Israel without the company logo, out of fear of public backlash. The national carrier will now run three weekly flights between Cairo and Tel Aviv with the EgyptAir markings. Sunday’s flight came two weeks after Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett made the first public visit to Egypt by an Israeli leader in over a decade. In August, Israel removed a longstanding advisory for its citizens about travel to Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, a move seen as a gesture to its strategic partner.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel restricted its COVID Green Pass on Sunday to allow only those who have received a vaccine booster dose or recently recuperated from coronavirus to enter indoor venues. The move is widely seen as a step to encourage booster vaccination among those who have yet to receive a third dose. Under the new guidelines, people must have received a booster shot to be eligible for a green pass. But at least 2 million more have received just two doses, and many will lose the privileges bestowed by the green pass. The ministry issued a statement Sunday morning that because of heavy traffic on its green pass website and app, previously existing certificates would be valid in the coming few days.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Saturday stressed that all foreign mercenary forces in Libya must leave. This came during Shoukry’s meeting with the Vice-President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, and his accompanying delegation. There Shoukry reiterated Egypt’s full support for Libya as an independent and sovereign state over its entire national territory. Egypt affirmed its readiness to harness all its capabilities to help Libya in its current stage. Lafi expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s supportive role in Libya and efforts to stabilize it.

The immediate recall of Algeria’s ambassador from France for “consultations” was announced Saturday evening in a statement from the Algerian presidency. The statement said the recall was motivated by recent comments about Algeria that were attributed to Macron. “The crimes of colonial France in Algeria are innumerable and fit the strictest definitions of genocide,” its statement alleged. French media reported that Macron made recent comments about Algeria’s post-colonial system of government and its attitudes to France.
