On Monday, a Taliban commander strolled through its empty halls and cell blocks, showing his friends where he had once been imprisoned. After capturing the city, the fighters freed all the inmates there, the government guards fled, and now dozens of Taliban fighters are running the facility. For some of the Taliban guards accompanying the AP, it was the first time they’d entered the abandoned cell blocks. Taliban prisoners often complained of abuses and beatings, and there were regular riots.

The state-owned power company is generating only minimal electricity, leaving businesses and households almost entirely dependent on small, private generators that run on fuel oil. Nasrallah on Monday said a second ship with fuel oil would arrive in the Syrian port of Baniyas in a few days, with a third and fourth, respectively carrying gasoline and fuel oil, also due. He said the first Iranian fuel oil shipment was priced in Lebanese pounds and would go to hospitals, orphanages and old people’s homes.

The Cairo Criminal Court on Monday turned down an appeal from businessman Hassan Ratib against detaining him, pending further investigations into accusations of financing former MP Alaa Hassanein to illegally excavate for antiquities. The court upheld an earlier decision by appellate judge in the South Cairo Court to renew the detention of Ratib pending investigations for more 45 days. Preliminary investigations revealed Ratib’s involvement in illegal archaeological excavations with Hassanein, his brother, and others. This was confirmed by the confessions of Hassanein’s brother that Ratib had paid millions of pounds to search for antiquities. Hassanein and Ratib are accused of bringing nineteen people together to traffic in looted antiquities embezzled by funded excavations and excavations in separate areas throughout Egypt, to sell them inside the country and abroad.

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority announced the weather forecast starting Monday until next Saturday, expecting temperatures to cool down by mid-September. Egypt’s Prosecutor General Hamada el Sawy ordered late Sunday the detention of the doctor and another employee in a private hospital for four days pending investigations. The four-minute video, which went viral on social media platforms, showed the doctor hurling insults at the elderly nurse and asking him to kneel and pray for his dog. The video caused a wave of anger among social media users who saw the doctor misusing his power against the nurse, abusing him and publishing these videos on social media. The doctor called Amr Khairy, added that half of the video is fabricated, and that he never asked the nurse to kneel for his dog. The nurse, Adel Salem, however, affirmed that the whole situation took place as it was showed, six months ago.
