RAMALLAH, Sept 12 (MENA) - Israeli occupation warplanes on Sunday launched several air raids targeting the central Gaza Strip, inflicting damage on citizens' property. Palestinian media quoted security sources as saying that the Israeli warplanes raided a post in east of Al-Bureij camp. No injuries were reported among Palestinians. F-16 warplanes fired six missiles towards the coastal road in western Rafah city, causing damage to nearby buildings. Also, Israeli planes targeted sites in western Khan Yunis, leaving behind gross material damage.

BEIJING (AP) — A city in southern China that is trying to contain a coronavirus outbreak told the public Sunday not to leave town, suspended bus and train service and closed cinemas, bars and other facilities. Anyone who needs to leave Putian, a city of 2.9 million people in Fujian province south of Shanghai, for an essential trip must have proof of a negative coronavirus test within the past 48 hours, the city government announced. China declared the coronavirus under control in early 2020 but has suffered outbreaks of the more contagious delta variant. Elsewhere in Putian, cinemas, card rooms, gyms, tourist sites and other facilities were ordered closed, the city government announced. China has reported 4,636 coronavirus deaths out of 95,199 confirmed cases.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI late Saturday released a newly declassified document related to logistical support given to two of the Saudi hijackers in the run-up to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The document details contacts the hijackers had with Saudi associates in the US but does not provide proof that senior Saudi government officials were complicit in the plot. The heavily redacted document was disclosed on Saturday night, hours after Biden attended Sept. 11 memorial events in New York, Pennsylvania and northern Virginia. Victims’ relatives cheered the document’s release as a significant step in their effort to connect the attacks to Saudi Arabia. Regarding Sept. 11, there has been speculation of official involvement since shortly after the attacks, when it was revealed that 15 of the 19 attackers were Saudis.

CASTIAC, Calif. (AP) — A wildfire near Castaic Saturday has led to the closure of a part of a major freeway in Southern California, officials told local media. KTLA reported that the Route Fire is threatening structures, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Santa Clarita Valley station. The National Weather Service said there were more than 1,100 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes in California between Thursday evening and Friday morning. Fire officials said lightning strikes ignited at least 17 fires. The second-largest fire in California history has burned 1,490 square miles (3,859 square kilometers) of land and more than 1,300 homes and other buildings.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Taliban raised their flag over the Afghan presidential palace Saturday, a spokesman said, as the U.S. and the world marked the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. He blamed the invasion that followed the 9/11 attacks for creating another generation of hardline Taliban fighters.

CAIRO - 11 September 2021: Egyptian and Indian naval forces have carried out joint drills involving India's ship "INS TABAR" and Egypt's frigate "Alexandria", a front-line frigate of the Egyptian Navy, in the Mediterranean Sea. The drills come as part of the Egyptian navy's joint training programs with global peers to enhance the combat capabilities of its personnel, enable it to fend off joint challenges and ensure maritime security and stability in the region. The exercise involved a wide range of combat activities and operations, including dealing with an asymmetric threat environment and joint maritime security operations. This is the second joint training experience in the territorial waters of the northern fleet region with the participation of the Indian naval ship "INS TABAR", which arrived in Alexandria early last week as part of its ongoing overseas deployment. A number of bilateral agreements for cooperation and cultural exchange exist between India and Egypt.

Egyptian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Tarek Adel met on Friday with AstraZeneca’s Vice President for the Middle East and Africa, as well as its regional medical director. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi witnessed on Saturday the launch of the National Human Rights Strategy in Egypt 2021-2026 from the New Administrative Capital. Sisi said that the Egyptian vision of human rights is based on several principles, the most prominent of which being that all rights and freedoms are interrelated and complementary, and there is a close link between democracy and human rights while achieving a balance between rights and duties. “I stress that it is an important step in the history of the Egyptian state, as Egypt was one of the first countries that contributed to the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” Sisi added. The President announced 2022 as the year of civil society, calling on its institutions to work diligently to achieve sustainable development and spread awareness of the culture of human rights. He added that the national strategy is the first integrated and long-term self-strategy in the field of human rights in Egypt.
