It aims, with a budget of €177 million, to provide thousands of childcare places over the next four years. Childcare facilities will be focused in areas of disadvantage where private services sometimes do not locate because of families’ limited incomes. Some 157,500 homes have been built since 2020, but childcare places have not kept pace, she said. Ms Currie said local authority planning departments should be mandated and trained to “more effectively plan and deliver” large-scale childcare facilities.

THE result won’t flush John Cleary’s face, nor as Jack O’Connor mentioned as gaeilge, deny him a wink of Saturday night sleep. Kerry’s home tie with Roscommon next Sunday is important for sure, but nowhere as crucial as Cork’s Division 2 opener at home to Cavan. And Cork boss Cleary wasn’t trying to dilute its significance either in Killarney. You don’t really find out until you get into the heat of battle against very good players, which Kerry have. Researchers say that some scarier breeds actually have the happiest looking faces, with German Shepherds and Rottweilers topping the list. This is because these more wolf-like dogs can use more facial muscles to create their expressions, and so appear happier to humans, experts said. Dr Maglieri says: 'Breeds such as Poodles, German Shepherds, Basset Hounds and Rottweilers tended to use a larger number of facial muscle movements during play. Meanwhile, the especially glum-looking Beagle could only use two muscle groups: The lower lip depressor and the mouth stretch.
