“We will be here for three and a quarter years,” Trump remarked at a White House dinner last week. AP Photo/Julia Demaree NikhinsonEarly polls show Vice President JD Vance as a clear and heavy favorite for the 2028 GOP nomination. Vance said during a Fox News interview this week that he planned to speak to Trump about the 2028 race after next year’s midterm elections. That is, whether intentional or not, that was the legacy of the Republican Party that came before Donald J. Trump. The libertarian 2016 GOP presidential candidate has had an on-again, off-again relationship with Trump.

Some historians say the closest modern parallel, though inexact, is the late President Richard Nixon’s quest for vengeance against political enemies. Comey, who led the FBI’s investigation into Trump’s 2016 campaign, was charged after Trump demanded his prosecution. Trump’s retribution campaign is hurting CIA morale and wrecking the bipartisan trust that allows Washington to function, Panetta said. “This kind of political retribution leads to a loss of trust, which ultimately leads to a failure of governing.” The CIA did not respond to a request for comment. But while Trump has conducted his retribution campaign in the open, historians note, Nixon’s enemies list was conceived as a covert tool.

LOADING ERROR LOADINGKevin Hassett, President Donald Trump’s top economic adviser, made an incredible reach in an attempt to justify a debunked claim about the Trump administration reducing the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner. AdvertisementEarlier this month, Trump took credit for what he claimed was Walmart announcing that “Prices for a Thanksgiving Dinner is now down 25% since under Sleepy/Crooked Joe Biden, in 2024.”But as detailed in a HuffPost analysis, Walmart had not made any comparisons to Thanksgiving prices last year. Since the president launched a trade war by slapping steep tariffs on imported goods, inflation has remained stubbornly high. “It’s hilarious to watch Trumpworld tell poor people to stop complaining Trump has made everything more expensive,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) wrote on X. said. Trump has ripped sitting Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, calling the central bank chief a “numbskull” for not cutting interest rates quickly enough.

With aggressive deportation efforts already underway, his response to the shooting showed that his focus will not waver. AdvertisementThe suspect in the shooting is believed to be an Afghan national, according to Trump and two law enforcement officials. The focus has involved the realignment of resources at federal agencies, stirring concern about potentially undermining other law enforcement priorities. Effective immediately, processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals is stopped indefinitely pending further review of security and vetting protocols.

A few hours earlier, my newborn son had passed away less than 30 minutes after I had given birth. In that hospital hallway, although I’d physically survived, something in me turned off so I could mentally survive. It was explained to me that these terminations weren’t the violent, graphic act often plastered on “pro-life” posters, but merely an early induction and delivery, with palliative care for a baby that wouldn’t survive. Going to work and running errands as a young woman with a baby who will die is torturous. My body was postpartum and confused without a baby, and that in itself was painful and confusing.
