United States to provide $73 million in food assistance for Rohingya
The United States will provide $73 million in new financial assistance to ensure food security and proper nutrition for the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, amid concerns that aid cuts could deepen the crisis for the world's largest stateless population. This food and nutrition support through WFP [UN World Food Programme] will provide critically needed food and nutrition assistance for more than one million people, read an X post by Tammy Bruce, spokesperson for the US Department of State, on Thursday. A similar reduction in 2023, which lowered food rations to $8 per person, led to a sharp increase in malnutrition before it was reversed. Separately, the U.S. said on Thursday it will provide $73 million in new financial aid to Rohingya refugees through the WFP. Rohingya refugees and Bangladeshi officials have worried that cuts would worsen hunger, curtail critical healthcare and fuel crime, while increasing the risks of human trafficking and radicalization.

Joint forces arrest another 280 suspects amid crackdown
Law-enforcing agencies arrested another 280 people with suspected links to criminal activities in a bid to keep a leash on crimes amid the degrading state of law and order. In a statement on Friday, the ISPR said the army had been working toward ensuring smooth Eid travels and prevention of ticket bootlegging with heightened vigilance. From Mar 20-26, units of different infantry divisions and independent brigades of the Bangladesh Army, alongside other law-enforcing agencies, carried out joint operations in the capital and other locations of the country, the ISPR said, according to a bdnews24.com report. Law enforcers recovered 10 illegal firearms, 143 different ammunition, grenades, drugs, weapons, stolen phones, tablets, passports, SIM cards, jewellery, trawler, motorcycle, truck, dredger and cash, among other things, from them. The army urged citizens to relay information on any suspicious activities to the nearest camp.

42 injured as bus flips over in Banani
At least 42 people suffered injuries after a bus tipped over in front of the Army Stadium in the capital’s Banani area. “The bus veered out of control near the U-turn opposite the Army Stadium. Everyone in the bus, including the driver and his assistant, were more or less injured in the incident,” said Russell Sarwar, chief of Banani Police Station, as per a bdnews24.com report. The injured were taken to Kurmitola General Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he added. Around 12:00 pm, the officer said: “The bus is being removed but the traffic situation is fine.”

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has rechristened different roads, buildings, and structures previously named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his family members and leaders of the Awami League.Bangabandhu Avenue has been renamed as Shaheed Abrar Fahad Avenue, according to an office order issued by the DSCC on Tuesday.DSCC Public Relations Officer Md Russel said, "The naming committee gave us a proposal, which was accepted at our board meeting. It was then forwarded to the Local Government Division. The renaming was finalised after the division approved it. On Feb 16, Bangladesh Bank announced that 80 branches of commercial banks, alongside the central bank, would exchange new banknotes. It ordered banks to keep the fresh notes stored and continue all cash transactions using recirculated currency.
