Fine Gael Faces Tight Election Amidst Declining Support Polls show Simon Harris's party slipping to third place as pre-election controversies mountThe electoral race of Ireland is heating up as the nation approaches its general election this Friday, marked by significant troubles for the ruling party, Fine Gael. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Simon Harris, Fine Gael, which has held office since 2010, is facing declining support just days before the polls open. Another poll conducted by the Sunday Independent echoed this, showing Fine Gael sinking by four percent. The polling atmosphere sets Fine Gael behind Fianna Fáil, led by Micheál Martin, which has garnered 21 percent support, as well as Sinn Féin, currently at 20 percent. Professor Theresa Reidy from University College Cork noted, "It is the cumulative impact of all these blunders—not just the viral incident with Fallon—that is now pushing Fine Gael down the ranks.

India has expressed concern over the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, leader of the Hindu organization Sammilita Sanatani Jote, in Bangladesh. India has criticized the action, emphasizing that charges were brought against a religious leader for peaceful protests, while perpetrators of arson and vandalism against temples and minorities remain unpunished. It lamented that while those responsible for such attacks remain at large, a religious leader advocating peacefully for legitimate demands has been arrested. A court in Bangladesh on Tuesday ordered Chinmoy Krishna Das to be sent to jail after rejecting his bail appeal. Why was Chinmoy Krishna Das arrested?

Formula 1 has always been considered a European sport, steeped in tradition and exclusivity. In the wake of this past weekend’s Las Vegas Grand Prix, however, I think it’s become clear that this European grounding has eroded. Building on this momentum, Liberty Media doubled down by adding races in Miami and Las Vegas to join the long-standing Austin Grand Prix. The Las Vegas event is particularly ambitious — a night race on the iconic Strip, taking place in the shadow of the famed Caesars Palace casino. Liberty Media’s gamble here is clear: to make Las Vegas the crown jewel of the calendar, rivaling or even replacing Abu Dhabi as the season finale.

ProductionThe resolution that kicked off the talks urged a treaty that would "promote sustainable production and consumption of plastics". But what that means is a key point of difference among negotiators. Some countries want the treaty to mandate a reduction of new plastic production, and the phase-out of "unneccessary" items, such as some single-use plastics. "A new global agreement to address plastic pollution should not duplicate these existing instruments and voluntary efforts," warned the International Council of Chemical Associations. Developed countries "have historically benefited from industrial activities related to plastic production", noted Saudi Arabia, speaking for the Arab group.

Chu’s Wicked (2024) is a big swing and a miss, capturing the content of the stage musical but failing to hit on all of the beats that make it so great. Wicked follows The Wizard of Oz’s Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, before Dorothy ever landed in Oz. In the stage musical, when Nessarose is getting manhandled, Elphaba pushes her chair away. There’s nothing wrong with long movies in general, but there is something very wrong with long movies that are only long because they are paced horribly. Do we have to revive Gene Kelly to get another great movie musical?
