50 animals sacrificed on Paris Ground against target of 500
Dhaka North City Corporation announced a Tk 1,000 cash incentive for those sacrificing cattle at the designated place, Paris Ground in Mirpur, expecting 500 animal slaughters. 3 on Eid-ul-Azha day on Monday despite an awareness campaign to use the designated places for cleanliness. 7, four designated places were used for sacrificing around 1,200 cattle heads, said Councillor Md Tofazzal Hossain. But it did not happen, leading Dhaka South City Corporation to scrap the idea of animals being slaughtered at designated places. The designated places don’t provide that joy or family atmosphere.”

Flames seen over Sylhet skies no cause for alarm, says Chevron
Chevron Bangladesh has announced the start of gas well maintenance at the Jalalabad gas field in Sylhet’s Lakkatura. Flames will be visible in the sky for the next 60 hours from early Tuesday. The US oil and gas company has assured local people that there is no cause for alarm. Chevron Public Relations Officer Sheikh Zahidur Rahman said in a press release on Sunday that the flaring was part of routine maintenance and that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure the safety of the local community and the environment. Residents are advised to avoid the vicinity of the gas well during this period.

Former premier rises to the top
SOUTH Africa's nine provincial legislatures have taken shape, marking the commencement of the 7th Parliament. On Saturday, 15 June Parliament hosted the first sittings of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP). The African National Congress’ Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane was elected unopposed as the chairperson of the NCOP. Mtsweni-Tsipane, who is the former premier of Mpumalanga, emphasised the need for transformative leadership, women’s inclusion, and progressive governance in the provinces. The delegates promised to fulfil their duties as permanent delegates to the NCOP or as members of their provincial legislatures to the best of their abilities.
