Cricket has always been a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s national pride. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), though imperfect, succeeded in establishing cricket as a vital national asset -- representing stability, hope, and international identity. Publicly available credible intelligence does not indicate that the Bangladesh national cricket team faces any special or heightened threat. Bangladesh risks being seen as an unreliable participant in international sport -- a country willing to withdraw from or disrupt tournaments when diplomatic winds shift. Cricket once elevated Bangladesh's reputation globally.

Reading time: about 7 minutesFor head coach Casey Jones ’90, junior forward Jake Kraft’s game goes beyond just scoring. “He epitomizes Cornell hockey, the way he plays, the way he goes after it.”Kraft’s importance to the lineup goes beyond points, beyond goals, beyond assists. Cornell (13-5-0, 8-3-0 ECAC) outshot Dartmouth (14-5-1, 8-3-1 ECAC), 31-16, and out-attempted the Big Green by a 66-42 margin. Dartmouth goaltender Emmett Croteau’s 29 saves were not enough to hold off Cornell’s onslaught — the Red’s expected goals (xG) for Friday night’s victory were a whopping 4.2. With less than four minutes to play in the period, a Cornell cross-check gave Dartmouth a delayed penalty.

24 seconds into the second frame, a senior forward Grace Dwyer cross-checking penalty gave the Tigers their second power-play chance of the game. The Red, unable to quickly respond, committed its third penalty of the game seven minutes later. “If they were getting beat, they would reach with the stick and take a tripping penalty or a hooking penalty or a slashing penalty. Stretching back to the start of December, Dwyer had committed 16 minutes worth of penalties and tallied just two goals. Three minutes into the final period, Princeton was whistled for its fourth penalty of the game.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday decided to replace Bangladesh with Scotland in the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7. The move came after the ICC issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) earlier this week. A copy of the letter was also marked to BCB president Aminul Islam, who sits on the ICC Board. At the same time, Gupta is understood to have written to Cricket Scotland, extending a formal invitation to participate in the 2026 World Cup. In the 2024 T20 World Cup, Scotland finished third in Group B, level on points with England but edged out on net run rate.

Sadly, none of the other friends ever let me know about these sweet friends. I know I can’t feel guilty about what I didn’t know about, but I feel like I needed support and still do as I mourn. Am I so easily forgettable to not be included in these lifelong friends’ trials? To experience this kind of social loss after the loss of your mother and your friends is terrible. Mom keeps asking me to teach her to take digital photos and create online auction listings, something my Dad used to do.

According to the latest global air quality report, Dhaka recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 299, placing it firmly in the “very unhealthy” purple category, just one step below hazardous levels. Experts say Dhaka’s worsening air quality is no longer limited to traffic congestion or peak working hours. Beyond health, worsening air quality is reshaping lifestyles across the capital. Citizens and experts alike are calling for real-time air quality monitoring, public health advisories and strict accountability for polluters. Without decisive, coordinated, and long-term action, the capital risks normalizing a level of air pollution that steadily erodes public health, productivity, and quality of life.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Saturday rejected allegations made by a Jamaat-e-Islami leader regarding alleged agreements between BNP and India, describing the claims as “political propaganda” aimed at creating confusion ahead of the election. There is no truth or factual basis to such claims, nor will he be able to provide any evidence,” Mahadi said. He added that the allegations were either a deliberate political tactic to stir controversy or a result of misinformation and ignorance. “We want to state clearly that claims of BNP signing agreements with India are entirely fabricated,” he said. He further said BNP expects a shift towards positive and responsible politics in the post-uprising political landscape, warning against disinformation, political manoeuvring and divisive narratives.

To say that as a nation, we continue to struggle with road safety, would be a gross understatement. Year after year, road fatalities in Dhaka look grim, and 2025 is no different: 219 lives lost in 2025, and shockingly, nearly half of them pedestrians. Most shocking perhaps was the surge in nighttime accidents -- an increase of over 40% of the total. With the country heading into general elections, and amid lofty promises of growth, jobs, and reforms, it is important that all political parties do not overlook the critical issue of road safety. As such, the next government must treat road safety as the national priority it has been.

The killing of Swechchhasebak Dal leader Azizur Rahman Musabbir in Dhaka’s Kawran Bazar was driven by disputes over extortion and control of the area, police said on Saturday. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Detective) Shafiqul Islam disclosed the information at a press briefing held around 11am at the DMP Media Centre on Mintu Road. Shafiqul Islam said eight to nine extortion syndicates — both overt and covert — are active in the Kawran Bazar area. Earlier, DB police arrested Jinnat, 24; Abdul Qadir, 28; Md Riaz, 31; and Md Bilal in connection with the murder on January 11.
