A five-year-old boy, wearing a blue tuque with droopy ears, carrying a Spider-Man backpack, was reportedly apprehended by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in his Columbia Heights driveway on Tuesday. Liam Ramos was essentially used "as bait," said Columbia Heights Public Schools (CHPS) Superintendent Zena Stenvik in a statement Wednesday. Columbia Heights is a suburb of Minneapolis, where a massive immigration crackdown has seen thousands of officers sent into the Twin Cities. Liam Ramos is seen reportedly being detained by ICE in Columbia Heights, Minn., outside his home on Tuesday. In her statement, Stenvik said the family "is following U.S. legal parameters" and has an active asylum case with no order of deportation.

I am sure we all sound like a broken record lately, but this is one of the biggest issues for this Dallas Cowboys team heading into the 2026 season. The defense was the worst in football, and the secondary was a huge reason why they were so bad. If the #Cowboys hire Jonathan Gannon as the defensive coordinator, just know I said what I said. I don’t think he makes it that far down the draft board, but we have about a 50/50 chance that he does. Even if they get Delane, they have to sign a solid free agent for this secondary.

Porter Airlines to close crew bases in Thunder Bay, Ont., and Halifax, N.S., in May
In an emailed statement to CBC News, a spokesperson for Porter Airlines says the crew base closure in Thunder Bay “impacts 66 crew members,” some of which are not represented by CUPE. Porter pilots in Thunder Bay, Halifax and Vancouver are represented by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) Local Executive Council 272. The Thunder Bay crew base opened in 2018. We know that the Thunder Bay community [likes] seeing familiar faces when they go on the flights that they go on in and out of Thunder Bay,” Seal said. CBC News has also reached out to the Thunder Bay Airport for comment and is awaiting a response.

Man fatally stabbed near Vancouver's Commercial-Broadway station

It is the city's first recorded homicide of 2026, the Vancouver Police Department said in a statement. Police say officers received reports of a stabbing at 8:40 p.m. PT on Tuesday near East 10th Avenue and Commercial Drive. The victim was taken to hospital but later died of his injuries.

2 dogs dead after kitchen fire in west Ottawa townhome
Two dogs are dead and three people displaced following a kitchen fire in a townhome in Ottawa's west end Wednesday morning. Firefighters were called to the end unit on Draper Avenue near Greenbank and Baseline roads at 8:51 a.m. after neighbours reported seeing smoke. During a search of the home rescuers located two large dogs, both unresponsive. The fire was declared under control within 36 minutes, and firefighters used fans to clear the smoke. They also opened parts of the kitchen wall to check for hot spots, and confirmed the fire had not spread to the adjacent unit.

Sask. restaurant owners charged with exploiting foreign workers
A Saskatchewan couple faces immigration-related provincial charges connected with their employment of foreign workers at restaurants in Humboldt and North Battleford. The Ministry of Immigration and Career Training says Vikram Singh and Harinder Sachdeva have been charged under the Foreign Worker Recruitment and Immigration Services Act, 2013 (FWRISA) and the Immigration Services Act. Last Thursday, a person in Saskatchewan was charged for providing immigration services without a licence. She said she employed around six or seven foreign workers during the time period associated with the charges. The ministry says its program compliance branch works to protect immigrants and foreign workers in Saskatchewan.
