“In Fulford Harbour, at Salt Spring Island a tugboat, work barge and crane were impacted by the high winds,” says the DND. “The tugboat was blown aground, and the work barge and crane capsized in the harbour.”In addition to the lost barge and crane, the vessel also leaked fuel into the waters. Ferry crossings are cancelled and over a thousand households are left without power Saturday morning, due to high winds and severe weather conditions. On Oct. 8, the province revoked Pacific Link College's (PLC) certification to provide career-related course programs, effectively shutting down the college. He said many students at Pacific Link would be out thousands of dollars after the closure. Ontario legislation that mandated air conditioning in all resident rooms in long-term care (LTC) homes has saved dozens of lives, according to a new study. The number of observed deaths in that time period was 308 while the simulated deaths in cases where air conditioning was not installed was 341. In 2021, the province mandated all LTC resident rooms have air conditioning installed by June 2022. At that time, there were 339 homes without air conditioning, representing just over 55 per cent of the total.
