CBC learned the details through an access to information request after weeks without a response from the Nunavut government. Break between tank and houseIn the message they say the unit’s oil line broke between the tank and the house from the weight of snow and ice buildup. “It looks like an entire tank of fuel drained out,” they wrote to Qittusuk. The government of Nunavut did not respond to questions of whether the broken line had been repaired.

A tentative agreement has been reached for over 9,000 workers at Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the unions say, averting potential job action later this week at the borders. The workers are represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and the Customs and Immigration Union (CIU). Our bargaining team has been working around the clock to secure the best contract for our members, and this tentative agreement is a testament to their incredible hard work and dedication, said PSAC national president Sharon DeSousa. In Budget 2024, the federal government announced changes to capital gains taxation to make Canada’s tax system fairer. Starting June 25, 2024, the capital gains inclusion rate will be increased from one-half to two-thirds for capital gains of over $250,000 per year for Canadians, and on all capital gains for corporations and most types of trusts. These changes will make Canada’s tax system fairer by making taxation more income-neutral—these changes narrow the tax advantage between capital gains and other forms of income, particularly paycheques. To that end, the government is clarifying that forthcoming legislation and Budget 2024 changes to capital gains do not include:Changes to the principal residence exemption. The government is maintaining the principal residence exemption, to ensure Canadians do not pay capital gains taxes when selling their home.

Ted Farron remembered for service to communityNewsDuration 1:37Ted Farron, who owned Farron's Gourmet Butcher in South Windsor for decades, passed away Saturday at the age of 83. Outside of running the business, Farron was known for his generosity. He was involved in various fundraisers from hospice to the Downtown Mission.
