The “Environment & Development Forum: The Road to Sharm El Sheikh Climate Change CoP27”, kicked off on Sunday under the sponsorship of the Foreign Ministry. The forum, to run till Tuesday, is held in cooperation with the Environment Ministry and with the participation of senior officials and experts representing 30 countries. It will discuss the top key items on most countries’ agendas, including food and water security, clean and renewable energy, sustainable development, ecological conservation and protection, emissions control and sustainable transport. The forum is organized by the Arab Water Council as part of preparations for COP27 conference, due in the Red Sea Resort of Sharm el Sheikh in November.

CAIRO - 11 September 2022: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Swailem said many countries suffer from water shortage amid increase in population, stable water quotas and climate changes having a negative impact on water amounts. Meantime, Swailem highlighted the negative climate impact on decrease in water levels. He accentuated the importance of rallying international efforts to face up to water challenges, along with placing the water issue on top of the global climate agenda, with a view to realizing sustainable development objectives. CAIRO - 11 September 2022: Egypt's Ambassador to Argentine Mohamed Kazem handed Argentinian Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero an invitation from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Argentinian President Albrerto Fernandez to attend the world summit to take place as part of COP27 conference. The world summit will take place on November 7-8 in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh. Egypt looks forward to an active and effective Argentinian participation in a way that complies with the pioneering role of the country in preserving environment, the diplomat said. On its Facebook page, the Foreign Ministry said the Argentinian minister expressed his country's support of Egypt and its confidence that the COP27 conference would be crowned with success and come out with hoped-for results. The two sides discussed deepening political, economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries and stepping up ligh-level visits between the two countries' officials.

According to Mohammed’s speech, in Africa alone, more than $500 billion will be required to achieve universal energy access by 2030. By then, the climate finance adaptation will constitute $440 billion. It aims to achieve sustainable, low-emission development and enhance scientific research and technology transfers in the climate change field. Mohammed pointed out that sustainable debt help during this forum will provide a link between debt issuances, and key performance indicators addressing climate resilience. She concluded her speech by saying that sustainable investment and climate finance at a pace and scale requires private investment.

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said revealed on Tuesday that a sub-fund has been established within the Sovereign Fund of Egypt, through which the shares that are scheduled to be presented to the IPOs committee will be prepared. The sources confirmed that the fund has already completed a list of some assets that will be included in the fund to be presented to strategic investors. The sub-fund aims to prepare government-owned companies for offering on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), as the government previously announced that it aims to offer shares in government-owned companies. CEO of Egypt’s Sovereign Fund Ayman Soliman said in previous statements that the pre-IPO fund will provide investment opportunities worth hundreds of millions of dollars for these major funds, which will reflect on Egypt’s benefit from entering foreign investments quickly, coinciding with the presence of shareholders who maximise the value of the fund. He added that Egypt has reached an agreement on a positive IMF loan for the money market, but the market needs more extensive measures.

CAIRO – 6 September 2022: Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit affirmed on Monday the need to find a fair and permanent solution to the Palestinian cause, the league said in a statement. Aboul Gheit affirmed that the stalemate in the political track portends the worst consequences. President Abbas briefed the Arab League chief on the Palestinian situation currently in light of the stalemate in the political track and continuation of Israeli occupation’s repressive measures and settlement expansion, the league added. In November, the Arab League will be holding its first annual summit in Algeria in three years after being suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Arab League held its last summit in Tunisia’s capital, Tunis, in March 2019.

CAIRO - 5 September 2022: Americana Group, one of the largest food companies and operators of restaurant chains in the Middle East, plans to invest $26 million through launching new production lines, announced Chairman of the General Authority for Free Zones and Investment (GAFI) Mohamed Abdel Wahab. The move aims to increase the group's presence in the food industries sector in Egypt along with targeting new markets to export its products, added Abdel Wahab in a meeting with Vice Chairman of Americana Group Mohamed Abdel Wahab to discuss the group's expansion plans in the Egyptian market. During the meeting, the two sides also tackled the best investment system through which projects can be implemented in order to achieve maximum benefit for the Egyptian economy. CAIRO - 5 September 2022: Egyptian Ambassador in Khartoum Hossam Eissa and Sudanese Minister of Electricity and Energy Mohamed Abdullah met and reviewed underway efforts for electrical interconnection between both countries. The two sides discussed cooperation proposals for promoting renewable energy projects, especially solar power projects, making use of Egypt's experience in this domain, the Foreign Ministry posted on its official Facebook page on Sunday. Emigration Minister Soha Gendi said Egyptians abroad represents a top priority in accordance with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s directives. During a phone call with Hekayti program of MBC satellite channel late Saturday, she said Egyptian expats are at the heart of the development process. Gendi noted that she held meetings with the ministers of communications, population and youth alongside the acting governor of the Central Bank of Egypt. She added that more meetings will be held next week to promote Egyptian expats’ link to their homeland. She added that the ministry seeks to offer as many incentives as it can to Egyptian expats, noting that these incentives will be available on a website or application for them.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said Saturday 03/09/2022 no room would be allowed for violating a a clear and precise system that has been developed to render the COP27 successful. This came during a meeting held by the Deputy Minister for Tourism Affairs Ghada Shalaby with representatives of companies that will launch tourism programs for COP 27’s delegations. The companies will be subject to close monitoring and follow-up campaigns to achieve the best performance in a manner befitting the reputation of the Egyptian tourist destination, Shalaby said. The companies have been chosen under precise criteria set by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in coordination with Egypt’s travel agencies chamber, where three companies were selected from the top 30 tour operators.
