The Egyptian pound records its highest price against US dollar in a month
On Thursday morning, the Egyptian pound recorded its highest price in a month against the US dollar, continuing to rise for the second day in a row. The dollar price recorded its highest price, since April 20, at LE18.32, slightly higher from LE18.35 on Wednesday. The dollar recorded LE18.30 on April 10. The Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) data showed on Monday that consumer price inflation in Egyptian cities jumped to 13.1 percent on an annual basis in April. The value of the currency fell 14 percent on March 21, after about a year and a half of little change.

Situation along Luhansk front lines “significantly deteriorated
There has been intense shelling along the front lines in the Luhansk region on Thursday, a Ukrainian official has said. Terrorists killed in Armed Forces airstrikes
The armed forces has announced that it has killed from May 7 until today a total of 23 terrorists who have been pursued and besieged in isolated areas adjacent to the border areas, in airstrikes on a number of terrorist outposts. Three four-wheel drive vehicles used by terrorists to implement their criminal plans were destroyed, the statement added. Law enforcement forces unfoiled on Wednesday morning an attempt to attack a security point killing seven terrorists and seizing a number of automatic rifles, ammunition, hand grenades, wireless devices. According to the statement, an officer and four soldiers were martyred, and two other soldiers were wounded during operations. The armed forces affirmed that they would continue to retaliate for the martyrs who lost their lives and completely eliminate terrorist from the ground up and achieve total security and safety for the people of Egypt .

Egypt demands more support to services provided to Syrian refugees on its soil
Egypt's Ambassador to the European Union Badr Abdel Aty at the Sixth Brussels Conference on "Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region" on May 10, 2022. In his speech, the ambassador presented the efforts deployed by Egypt to host Syrian refugees, and the government's keenness on providing education and healthcare services similar to those offered to Egyptians. Although Egypt hosts six million refugees, including 500,000 Syrians, no single boat carrying illegal migrants has sailed from its shores since 2016. Egyptian governorate competitiveness index launched, 27 customized plans for each one
CAIRO – 11 May 2022: A governorate competitiveness index has been launched to monitor the efficacy of economic policies in every governorate, contributing to comprehensive development and integration at the national level, according to Minister of Planning Hala al-Said. The minister, who was explaining the 2022/2023 sustainable development plan to the House of Representatives on Monday, was referring to education, health, housing, training, and public facilities. In a pioneering step, the ministry produced 27 reports in cooperation with the UNFPA to detect progress in all 27 governorates of Egypt in terms of sustainable development and determine the developmental gaps in each one. This will result in a customized program for every governorate, according to Said. Some 51 percent of government investments are directed at the human capital and improving the quality of Egyptians’ lives, Said told the parliament.

Payments received from Egypt, Kurdistan rose to $69M: Dana Gas
CAIRO - 11 May 2022: UAE Company, Dana Gas announced that the total cash payments received in the Kurdistan region of Iraq and Egypt increased by 18.2 percent to reach 253 million dirhams ($ 69 million) at the end of the first quarter of this year, compared to 213 million dirhams ($ 58 million) in the first quarter of 2021. The company explained in a statement to the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, that the contributions of Egypt and the Kurdistan region of Iraq out of the total payments received to the company amounted to 62 million dirhams, equivalent to $17 million in Egypt, and $191 million dirhams, equivalent to 52 million in Iraq. According to the statement, the amounts owed to the company in the Kurdistan region of Iraq amounted to about 216 million dirhams, equivalent to $59 million, in the same period of this year, compared to 176 million dirhams, equivalent to $48 million, in the first quarter of 2021. The unpaid amounts due to the company in Egypt witnessed a significant improvement, as they decreased in the first quarter of 2022 to 114 million dirhams, equivalent to $31 million, compared to 480 million dirhams, equivalent to $131 million at the end of the first quarter of 2021. According to the company's results, its revenues increased by 32 percent in the same period of this year to reach 513 million dirhams ($ 140 million) compared to 389 million dirhams ($ 106 million) in the first quarter of 2021.

Dozens of workers at Egyptian judicial institutions fired over affiliation to outlawed Muslim Brotherhood: minister
CAIRO – 11 May 2022: Minister of Justice Omar Marwan stated in a TV interview Tuesday that investigations unveiled the presence of dozens of elements affiliated to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood among the employees of judicial institutions, and who were all dismissed. With regard to modernizing work at the judiciary, the minister showcased the under-construction "City of Justice" lying at the New Administrative Capital, which is a smart city. Car prices in Egypt to increase within near future
The head of the Egyptian Automotive Dealers Association Osama Aboul-Magd said that Egypt will witness increasing car prices within the near future. During a telephone interview with Etc TV channel on Tuesday, Aboul-Magd said that the state is carefully handling the issue due to how large and sensitive the car sector is. CAIRO – 10 May 2022: The Egyptian Health Ministry closed a private eye hospital Tuesday after the death of a young lady who undergone an x ray dye on her eyes without allergy test in prior. An urgent investigation started into the incident, after medical negligence is believed to be the reason behind the death. Marina Salah, 27 years old, went to a private eye hospital in Cairo a few days ago as she had severe redness. Marina had not undergone an allergy test before the rays, which cause her death eventually after several attempts to rescue her. He ensured that the Ministry of Health is investigating the incident.

Egypt advances to 48th position in empowering women politically
According to the report, Egypt has reached its best level in 10 years, regarding progress made in empowering women. In 2021, Egypt ranked 78th position compared to 126th in 2011. Egypt advanced 70 positions in the indicator of women representation in parliament, where it occupied the 66th position in 2021 compared to 136th in 2020, in addition to advancing 5 positions in the education indicator for women, where it occupied the 105th position in 2021, compared to the position 110 in 2011. - The representation of women in the judiciary increased, reaching 3,115 women judges in 2022, compared to 2,130 women judges in 2014. - Number of female judges in courts increased to 66 in 2022, compared to 41 in 2014.

Egyptian Border Guard thwarts smuggling of weapons, ammunition and narcotics
Egyptian Border Guard forces in the Great Sand Sea area, south of Siwa Oasis, in the west of the country, thwarted the smuggling of a large shipment of weapons, ammunition and narcotics. The military spokesperson for the Armed Forces, Gharib Abdel-Hafez, said in Monday statement that authorities seized two four-wheel drive vehicles without license plates used by terrorists for infiltration and smuggling. They also seized seven sniper rifles (FN), two Kalashnikov submachine gun, 13 automatic rifles, five Beretta rifle, RPG, 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, two 14.5 machine gun, eight automatic magazines, seven FN sniper magazines, and two RPG warheads, alongside 1,162 rounds of different ammunition, a satellite phone and one million narcotic tablets were recovered. Legal measures were taken against the smugglers. Abdel-Hafez said that the Border Guard is continuing its intensive efforts against outlaws, and imposing security control on all strategic directions of the state to secure Egypt’s borders, in conjunction with the intensification of tightening procedures and control over all the state’s border crossings and ports.
