Istanbul (CNN) – Turkish security forces killed a child on Sunday after opening fire on a vehicle carrying migrants from the eastern Van province near Turkey’s border with Iran, a local official told CNN on Tuesday. According to a statement released by the governor’s office on Sunday, Turkish forces first asked the vehicle to stop. When it continued driving on, security forces opened fire in an attempt to stop the vehicle. Once it stopped, Turkish personnel found the vehicle was used for smuggling migrants and found “40 irregular migrants” in it, according to the statement. Van province is located near Turkey’s border with Iran and serves as a transit route for migrants coming from Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and central Asia.

Egypt has renewed its call for the international community to support green transformation in Africa, and stressed importance that the International Development Agency plays in combating poverty, promoting economic growth, and improving the lives of low-income citizens around the world, through the provision of funds and technical support policies. During Egypt’s speech at the World Bank Group’s International Development Agency summit, which was held in Senegal, Minister of International Cooperation Rania al-Mashat explained that Africa is one of the continents that suffers the most from development challenges at the level of high rates of poverty and low equality of opportunities between the sexes. During the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP27 Egypt will work to direct the attention of the international community to development challenges in the African continent, and to enhance joint cooperation between the relevant parties to support the green transformation in the continent, and to make available the financing for development. Mashat explained that the availability of adequate financing for climate action and the availability of the US$100 billion annually pledged by developed countries is necessary to implement climate pledges, build more confidence for emerging economies and improve their resilience. She called on the international community to enhance transparency regarding the flow of funds, and to facilitate access of African, developing and emerging countries to financing.

CAIRO - 7 July 2022: Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly presided over a meeting Thursday to follow up on preparations for the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference, COP27, to be held in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh. Egyptian Cabinet spokesman Nader Saad said the meeting took up a number of initiatives expected to figure high on COP27 agenda, along with ongoing preparations by concerned ministries for the gathering. The prime minister stressed keenness on being posted on the latest updates regarding COP27 preparations, with a view to rendering the event a success, the spokesman said. Meantime, the meeting tackled ongoing contacts with giant national and foreign companies interested in sponsoring the conference, he added. The meeting also took up studies on green hydrogen projects and progress in the implementation of the Dabaa nuclear power plant.

CAIRO – 7 July 2022: Egyptian museums contain millions of rare artifacts from various ancient Egyptian eras. Among these artifacts is an ancient Egyptian funeral boat carrying a mummy, two women and six other statues, located in the Mummification Museum in Luxor. The Mummification Museum is located on the Nile Corniche, north of Luxor Temple. It was opened in 1997, and is one of the most important museums in Egypt, dedicated to the art of ancient Egyptian mummification. The Mummification Museum covers an area of about 2000 square meters and is considered one of the most important specialized museums in Egypt.

CAIRO - 4 July 2022: The Egyptian Suez Canal achieved its highest annual revenue in its history during the fiscal year 2021/2022 at $7 billion, compared to $5.8 billion in 2020/2021, marking an increase of 20.7 percent, according to the Head of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Osama Rabie. Rabie attributed the big leap in the revenues to the increase in the number and tonnage of ships transiting the canal during the fiscal year 2021/2022. Rabie said in a statement that "the navigation statistics in the canal during the fiscal year 2021/2022 recorded new and unprecedented records throughout the history of the canal, achieving the highest annual net tonnage for a fiscal year of 1.32 billion tons, and the highest annual financial revenue of $7 billion, surpassing all numbers that have been recorded before. Moreover, the total net tonnage crossing the canal hiked 10.9 percent, 130 million tons, amounting to 1.32 billion tons, compared to 1.19 billion tons during the fiscal year 2020/2021. The fiscal year in Egypt begins on the first of July of each year and ends on June 30 of the following year.

On Sunday, Hurghada International Airport received its first flight from the Yerevan airport in Armenia via “Fly Arna” airlines. Two flights are scheduled from Yerevan airport per week to Hurghada. The airport staff distributed roses and chocolates to the tourists coming on the flight. Hurghada International Airport in the Red Sea Governorate received on Sunday 86 regular and charter flights from various European airports, carrying about 12,000 European tourists. The Red Sea Governorate, specifically Hurghada, has become the most prominent destination for German, British, Polish and Romanian tourists due to the high level of services of its hotels.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday inaugurated the Adly Mansour Transportation Hub in east Cairo. He listened to a detailed explanation from Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir about the station and also inspected one of the electric trains at the Adly Mansour station. The Adly Mansour Transportation Hub is the largest in the Middle East. The most important achievement of the Adly Mansour station is that for the first time in the history of metro projects, a station has been fully implemented by Egyptian hands through national Egyptian companies. The Adly Mansour metro station will be the beginning of the stations of the electric train project (Al-Salam – the New Administrative Capital – 10th of Ramadan City), which is currently being implemented.

Egypt’s Ministry of Finance aims to offer 52 treasury bill (T-bill) issuances worth EGP 686.5bn and 39 bond issuances worth EGP 131.5bn from 1 July to 30 September 2022. The Central Bank of Egypt, which undertakes this task on behalf of the government, will issue T-bills and bonds worth EGP 251bn in July, to be followed by more issuances worth EGP 315bn in August, and issuances worth EGP 251bn in September. The Ministry is also scheduled to offer 3-year bonds worth EGP 26.5bn, 5-year bonds worth EGP 6bn, 7-year bonds worth EGP 3.5bn, and 10-year bonds worth EGP 1.5bn. The banks operating in the Egyptian market are the largest sectors investing in bonds and treasury bills, which the government periodically offers to cover the state’s budget deficit. In the same context, the Ministry of Finance revealed that the volume of outstanding balances of domestic treasury bills and bonds reached about EGP 3.830trn in May 2022.

CAIRO – 3 July 2022: For the first time across the country, Egypt opened on Saturday, a beach , Major General Mohamed El Sherif, Governor of Alexandria, opened the first beach for the blind in the Republic, after allocating an area for it at the People of Determination Beach in Mandara,Alexandria Governor Mohamed El Sherif inaugurated the beach in Al Mandara district, to be the first beach allocated for the visually impaired. The Central Administration of Tourism and Resorts in Alexandria announced that they are preparing a walk for the People of determination at Mandara beach, free of charge. Egypt witnessed an unprecedented boom during the past decade in the field of rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, as the state took several steps to ensure the rights of this group of citizens, in education, health, job opportunities, and pension.
