FIFA probes abandoned Brazil-Argentina match
World soccer's governing body FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings into Sunday's Brazil v Argentina World Cup qualifier which was abandoned after five minutes amid farcical scenes, reports Reuters. Brazilian health authorities invaded the pitch to stop the game after accusing four of Argentina's English Premier League players of violating the country's Covid-19 quarantine rules. "Following the analysis of the official match reports related to the FIFA World Cup qualifier match between Brazil and Argentina, FIFA can confirm that disciplinary proceedings have been opened involving both member associations," FIFA said on Tuesday. It said Argentine players had made false statements about their previous whereabouts on immigration forms. Brazil's Federal Police said on Monday they had opened a formal inquiry into the actions of the Argentine players who, a spokesperson said, were deported.

Hana Gouda defeats Dina Mishref, qualifies for African Table Tennis final
National table tennis team player Hana Gouda, of Al-Ahly Sporting Club, has defeated Dina Meshref, number one in Africa, in the semi-finals of the African Table Tennis Championship. The 13-year-old won the match 4-2 to qualify for the final of the tournament. Gouda has topped the U-15 world rankings three 3 times, and contributed to Ahly’s success in the Table Tennis League in the last season. Meshref is one of the first Egyptian players to become a professional table tennis player. Dina currently plays in the French table tennis league, has participated in three Olympic tournaments, and is the first Egyptian player to be included in the list of the 50 best players in the world.

Injury scare for Spurs as Son picks up knock on international duty
(Reuters) – Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min will play no part in South Korea’s World Cup qualifier against Lebanon on Tuesday due to a calf injury, the Korea Football Association (KFA) said hours before the game. The Korean skipper played the full 90 minutes in the goalless draw against Iraq on Thursday but has since strained his right calf. “Heung-min felt uncomfortable in his right calf after training on the 6th, and as a result of the test, he was excluded in order to protect the player,” the KFA said in a statement. If Son doesn’t recover in time, he is likely to miss Spurs’ trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday. The 29-year-old is a key player for Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo, having started all three of the side’s Premier League games so far, which they have won.

Egypt discusses cooperation in tourism with South Korea
Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled al-Anany received the South Korean ambassador in Cairo Hong Jin-Wook, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of the Minister Plenipotentiary Dalia Abdel Fattah, General Supervisor of the General Department of International Relations and Agreements. The meeting discussed enhancing means of cooperation between the two countries in tourism and antiquities and promoting Egyptian tourist destinations in South Korea by preparing joint promotional programs to encourage the tourist movement from South Korea to Egypt. They also discussed the possibility of benefiting from South Korean’s technological expertise and working to implement projects to raise the efficiency of services provided to visitors, whether Egyptians or tourists, and improve their experiences by visiting museums and archaeological sites as part of the ministry’s strategy for digital transformation. The meeting also discussed organizing a temporary exhibition of Egyptian antiquities in South Korea, especially in light of the great interest of the Korean people in the ancient Egyptian civilization, the itinerary of the Holy Family’s journey, and St. Catherine’s Monastery. Video: Egypt promotes tourism in Port Said
Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities featured the Port Said governorate on its website and social media pages on Monday. The promotion comes as part of the ministry’s month-long campaign to promote tourism in Egypt’s governorates, in celebration of World Tourism Day. The Ministry of Culture had previously chosen Port Said as the capital of Egyptian culture in 2021. The governorate includes many tourist attractions, including the Suez Canal Authority building, Al Farma, the Abbasid Mosque, Port Fouad suburb, Sainte Eugenie Church, al-Salam Mosque, and Port Said lighthouse, in addition to the Military Museum and Port Said National Museum. It also has several recreational places and gardens, including the Port Fouad salt mountains.

Saudi, UAE leaders hold call amid rising regional rivalry
DUBAI, Sept 7 (Reuters) – The crown princes of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates discussed bilateral relations and other issues in a phone call, state media of the two countries said on Monday. Despite being close allies, economic competition between the Gulf neighbors has been laying bare differences as Riyadh tries to challenge its smaller neighbor’s dominance as the region’s business, trade and tourism hub in a post-oil era. Their national interests have diverged increasingly in recent years, as well as their views on regional issues such as their relations with Israel and Turkey. Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan – the de facto leaders of the two Gulf states – discussed the prospects for developing strategic cooperation, UAE state news agency WAM said. Mohamed Ramadan appeals compensation ruling against late pilot
Egyptian actor and singer Mohamed Ramadan on Tuesday appealed against a compensation ruling issued in April by Cairo Economic Court in favor of the late pilot Ashraf Aboul-Yousr. On April 8, the court awarded Aboul Yousr with LE6 million in his lawsuit against Ramadan, wherein Aboul-Yousr had demand LE25 million in damages. Lawyer Magdy Helmy had filed the compensation lawsuit against Ramadan, stating that his client suffered material and moral damages after Ramadan published a picture on social media in a plane’s cockpit in October 2019. In July 2020, the Dokki Misdemeanor Court sentenced Ramadan to one year in prison, LE10,000 bail and a LE20,000 fine for the photo. Dokki Misdemeanor Appellant Court in Giza later accepted an appeal filed by Ramadan later against his sentence.

COVID-19 in Egypt: 368 new cases, 12 deaths on Monday
Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population on Monday reported 368 new coronavirus cases, 12 deaths, and 659 recoveries. A total of 290,395 cases have been reported in Egypt, alongside 16,801 deaths and 242,623 recoveries. The committee, headed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, agreed that restaurants, cafes, shops, and malls may return to summer working hours. Any facility that violates summer hours will receive a fine and be subject to close for two weeks. The Health Ministry is currently working to issue QR-coded vaccination certificates for Egyptians and foreigners that receive their doses in the country.

Egypt sends second shipment of humanitarian aid to Sudan
Egypt sent a second shipment of humanitarian aid to Sudan, as part of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s directive to provide support to Sudan in confronting its ongoing internal issues. Two military transport planes took off from East Cairo Air Base heading to Khartoum International Airport carrying tons of humanitarian aid. The aid included large quantities of food and blankets provided by the Defense Ministry and the Egyptian Red Crescent. Israeli army says it launched strikes on Hamas site in Gaza
TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israel launched airstrikes on what it said was a Hamas military site in the Gaza Strip early on Tuesday, after incendiary balloons were sent into Israeli territory, the army said. Israeli forces, meanwhile, searched for six Palestinian prisoners who had escaped from a high-security facility in the biggest prison break of its kind in decades. Fighter jets struck a Hamas rocket manufacturing workshop as well as a Hamas military compound in Khan Yunis, a city in southern Gaza, according to the army statement. The devices were a show of support for the six escapees, which Hamas and other Palestinian militants hailed as a heroic victory. The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, which represents both former and current prisoners, identified the men as ranging in age from 26 to 49 years old.

Myanmar resistance movement calls for nationwide uprising
BANGKOK (AP) — The main underground group coordinating resistance to Myanmar’s military government called for a nationwide uprising on Tuesday. There were no immediate signs of heightened resistance activity, although some student groups and ethnic armed organizations expressed solidarity. The National Unity Government is popular inside Myanmar, but its actual power and influence is hard to measure. He said people should help the defense forces where they can, including with information about government military forces. The resistance movement against the military takeover had established “people’s defense forces” in many areas, but they mostly operate locally and when active, carry out small-scale hit-and-run guerrilla operations.

Officials anticipate progress fighting fire near Lake Tahoe
Officials lifted the mandatory evacuation order for the 22,000 residents of South Lake Tahoe on Sunday, allowing some residents to trickle back into the smoke-cloaked city. “I was honestly convinced this place was gonna go down,” Lake Tahoe Community College student Dakota Jones said Monday upon his return.
