Egypt will launch a comprehensive national strategy for the period 2026-2030 aimed at the full integration and empowerment of 11m people with disabilities, the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) announced on Monday. Egypt aims to produce 15 million mobile phones next year and begin exporting devices to international markets, following the manufacture of 10 million units in 2025, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat said on Monday. He noted that Egypt has successfully attracted 15 international mobile brands to manufacture locally as part of a broader strategy to transform the communications and information technology (ICT) sector into a production-led strategic power. Talaat reported that Egypt’s digital exports reached $7.4bn in 2025, with a target to increase this figure to $9bn. Regarding digital governance, Talaat announced that the “Digital Egypt” platform now offers 210 services to over 10m registered users. The minister also pointed to Egypt’s growing status in the international outsourcing market, with more than 270 centres providing digital services globally.

Egypt and the United Arab Emirates are working to conclude negotiations on a comprehensive economic partnership agreement intended to increase investment flows and enhance economic competitiveness, Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib said. During a meeting in Cairo with UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the two sides discussed the latest developments regarding the partnership agreement, seeking to align viewpoints and achieve mutual interests. Egypt’s ready-made garments sector has achieved a historic milestone, with exports surpassing $3bn for the first time, according to the Apparel Export Council of Egypt (AECE). The council said total garment exports reached approximately $3.1bn between January and November 2025, marking the highest level ever recorded by the industry. These expansions, he added, will boost export-oriented production and further strengthen Egypt’s position as a leading regional hub for the apparel industry. On a monthly basis, garment exports in November 2025 rose by 18% year-on-year to $281m. February recorded the highest monthly growth rate at 30%, while July registered the highest export value, with shipments reaching $326m.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said preparations are underway for the 2026 Thanaweya Amma (general secondary) exams, stressing the need to take all necessary measures to secure the examination process at the highest level and confront any cheating attempts with deterrent penalties to ensure equal opportunities for all students. Madbouly made the remarks during his meeting on Sunday, December 28, 2025, with Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel Latif along with some officials from the bodies concerned to review Thanaweya Amma exam arrangements. The education minister said strict procedures will be applied to deter individual and group cheating. Meanwhile, Madbouly directed that all exam classrooms be equipped with surveillance cameras. On that score, the education minister said 90-95 percent of Thanaweya Amma exam classrooms are already covered, with installation being completed nationwide before exams start.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has detailed Egypt’s strategic vision for regional stability, calling for an emergency African Union (AU) session to reject Israel’s recognition of Somaliland while offering peacekeeping support for the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk said concessional financing will be provided to the first 100,000 taxpayers who join the simplified tax system, stressing that the move aims to support taxpayers, ease compliance, and help businesses expand. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting on Monday to review measures aimed at enhancing the performance efficiency of state-owned economic authorities, with particular focus on the National Media Authority (NMA), within the framework of the government’s broader structural reform agenda. The Prime Minister noted that the committee has already convened several times, during which an initial assessment of economic authorities was conducted. For her part, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat reviewed the role of the reform committee and the current status of each economic authority. Head of the Technical Secretariat of the Committee for the Reform and Restructuring of Economic Authorities Hussein Eissa outlined the outcomes of the committee’s first phase, noting that 59 economic authorities were reviewed. In principle, it was agreed to retain 39 authorities, liquidate or abolish four, merge seven into other entities, and convert nine from economic authorities into public authorities for various considerations.
