The Ministry of Trade and Industry has refuted the rumors circulated by some media outlets that it is studying to suspend the anti-dumping duties on imports of rebar from Turkey, Ukraine, and China. The Ministry stated that it issued Ministerial Resolution No. 122 “Continued A”, extending the application of Ministerial Resolution No. 1525/2017 that imposed anti-dumping duties on imports of rebar bars, coils, rods and wires originating from or exported by Turkey, Ukraine, and China for a period of four years from the date of publication in the Official Gazette. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Hossam Heiba, the CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), to review several files related to the authority’s work and efforts to boost investment. During the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the organization of a meeting with the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities and the GAFI CEO. The meeting aims to increase the number of public free zones in new cities. The Ministry of Housing, through the New Urban Communities Authority, will be in charge of preparing and equipping these public free zones in new cities. CAIRO – 24 January 2024: Egypt is facing harsh conditions on its Western, Eastern, and Southern borders, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi affirmed Wednesday saying, “I understand the amount of economic pressure on Egyptians, the tough circumstances, and price hikes. Yet, I trust the resilience of the Egyptian people in the face of crises that impact our lives and economy.”President Sisi highlighted that the complicated international and regional circumstances imposed major economic challenges to Egypt. “We need to increase our USD revenues in order to fulfill needs and resolve the currency crisis. We already import $1-billion-worth of fuel and $1-billion-worth of wheat, corn and beans monthly,” the Egyptian president stated pointing out that imported staples are subsidized for millions of citizens. In that framework, the Egyptian president announced launching a national dialogue on the country’s economic status saying that there was a need for a “thorough national dialogue” on the Egyptian economy.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry warned on Tuesday of the consequences of the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip and the expanding circle of conflict, and the region facing imminent scenarios with unpredictable outcomes, as seen in the tensions in the southern Red Sea region and their impact on the security of international navigation. The Israeli aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip continued for the 109th day, as violent battles between the Palestinian resistance and the Israeli occupation army intensified in the city of Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip. The occupation army also launched a fierce bombing campaign against civilians, killing and injuring dozens. On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the Israeli occupation army committed 22 massacres against civilians in the past 24 hours, killing 195 and injuring 354. The ministry confirmed that the death toll of the Israeli aggression had risen to 25,490, while the number of injured had reached 63,354. On Monday, Israeli media reported that the occupation army began expanding its ground operation in Khan Yunis.

Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, witnessed on Monday, the launch of the annual scientific conference of the General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes, which is being held this year under the title “Emergency Medicine,” from January 22 to 23. Abdel Ghaffar noted the importance of having unified guidelines among all medical facilities in various parts of the country to deal with emergency cases so far, pointing to the role of the Egyptian Health Council in developing guidelines in this regard. He also referred to the Medical Liability Law, which will contribute to organizing problems that occur due to the lack of unified guidelines. He further reviewed the state’s plan to establish a medical city for hospitals and educational institutes. Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met with the Chairman of the Greek Copelouzos Group, Dimitrios Copelouzos, on Monday in Brussels. The meeting was attended by Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, and some senior company executives. In the northern Gaza Strip, clashes resumed between the Israeli army and the resistance forces, especially in the east and west of Gaza City. The Karama and Intelligence Towers areas witnessed fierce fighting, amid air raids and artillery shelling on residential areas. In the centre of the strip, the Israeli army resumed its intense attacks on the Nuseirat and Bureij camps and areas in Deir al-Balah, along with ground clashes. The Palestinian Red Crescent also expressed its deep concern for the safety of its staff working at Al Amal Hospital and the association’s headquarters in Khan Yunis. The Al-Quds Brigades said that they bombed a supply line for enemy vehicles east of Jabalia with a barrage of mortar shells, in a joint operation with the Al-Qassam Brigades.

CAIRO – 22 January 2024: Uzbek Ambassador in Cairo Mansurbek Kilichev has underscored the important role played by Egypt to broker a pause of war in Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid to the besieged Gazans.
