Also aerial surveillance by Coast Guard helicopters will be conducted to look for Arjun and at least three others still missing. Sophisticated search equipment including long boom excavator, deep search metal detectors, ground penetrating radar, etc. have been pressed into service for what is the biggest search operation in recent past. The search using Underground Buried Object Detection (BOD) system commenced at 11 am.

Posted on or sometime before 22 July, the videos showed at least 28 MCAV-20s being transported by train on flatcars at unidentified locations said to be in Ethiopia. One video showed the train crossing a bridge that Janes identified as one on the Djibouti-Addis Ababa railway line in Adama. ADDIS ABABA: Rescuers aided by drones were continuing a desperate search on Wednesday (Jul 24) for possible survivors of devastating landslides in an isolated area of southern Ethiopia that have killed 229 people and affected thousands more. About 14,000 people need to be evacuated from the area urgently because of the risk of further landslides, a UN source told AFP. Senait Solomon, head of communications for the South Ethiopia regional government, said eight people had been pulled from the mud alive and taken to medical facilities for treatment. Seasonal rains in South Ethiopia state between April and early May had caused flooding, mass displacement and damage to livelihoods and infrastructure, it had said in May. The deadliest landslide in Africa was in Sierra Leone's capital in Freetown in August 2017, when 1,141 people perished.

Addis Ababa, July 24: The death toll from the landslide in southern Ethiopia has risen to 229, the local government said.The deadly landslide occurred on Monday morning at around 10:00 a.m. local time in southern Ethiopia's Geze Gofa district, Xinhua news agency reported.The deaths include 148 males and 81 females, according to a statement issued by the Gofa Zone Government Communication Affairs Department. As part of rescue efforts, the Ethiopian Red Cross Association and professionals from neighbouring regions and zones are currently at the site, helping the victims.The deadly landslide occurred as Ethiopia is in the midst of a rainy season, which started in July and is expected to last until mid-September.Seasonal rains occasionally cause deadly landslides in some parts of the East African country.
