But as the number of Ethiopian Jews in Israel grew in the following decades, however, so too did Israel’s concerns. For years, Ethiopian Jews have been blocked from joining their relatives living in Israel, while other white Jewish migrants and refugees from Ukraine have been welcomed in their thousands. Put simply, Ethiopian Jews have the wrong skin colour for Israel’s ethno-religious demographic project to be considered fully Jewish. Ethiopian Jews in Israel have consistently experienced lower wages in the job market and much higher levels of unemployment generally. The disparities reflecting the inferior treatment of black Ethiopian Jews continue in virtually every other area of life, including housing, educational attainment, and more.

ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 12, (Xinhua/GNA) – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), has warned against an impending humanitarian crisis in Ethiopia, fueled by a combination of climatic shocks, conflict and economic shocks. Ethiopia is once again on the verge of a major humanitarian situation, due to cycles of multiple, often overlapping crises, which severely weakens communities’ ability to cope,” the agency said in its latest Ethiopia humanitarian situation report, issued Wednesday. The humanitarian crises in Ethiopia, it said, is primarily driven by the convergence of four major factors, that are climate crises, mainly manifested through floods and drought, armed conflicts, disease outbreaks, as well as economic shocks. It noted that Ethiopia is among countries, most susceptible to climatic shocks, not least drought and flooding, caused by erratic rainfall patterns. Scaled-up humanitarian response and resilience building are urgently required for the internally displaced persons, vulnerable host communities and the returning IDPs,” it said.

Journalists at CNN have slammed Israel in social media posts, with one calling out the "Zionist entity" online, according to a report from a media watchdog. "Your precious 'Israel' ... was injecting women of Ethiopian origin with the long-acting contraceptive (sterilizing them)," CNN producer Mohammed Abdelbary said in 2021 in a now-deleted X post. Abdelbary has made anti-Israel posts on social media as far back as 2014, when he said "fuck Israel" and that he hopes the country gets "crushed by the Palestinians." Another journalist named by HonestReporting is British cameraman Richard Harlow, who has claimed on social media that Israel is committing war crimes, including harvesting the organs of dead Palestinians. Harlow said on social media recently that he has been tasked with editing footage from a local Gazan correspondent for CNN, the watchdog said.

It is our view that Ethiopia’s quest for sea access might not be guaranteed solely through the recently signed deal with Somaliland. Legal RightsInternational maritime law grants landlocked states certain rights to access the ocean through bilateral agreements with coastal states. It also appears to be Ethiopia’s main concern in looking for direct sea access. Exploring alternative legal options is crucial for landlocked countries like Ethiopia to ensure diverse and reliable access to the sea. This may involve considering what benefits and guarantees Somalia can secure from Ethiopia and Somaliland in exchange for cooperation on sea access.

By Scott HamiltonJan. 11, 2024, © Leeham News: Alaska Airlines Flight 1282’s (AS 1282) decompression last Friday on a Boeing 737-9 MAX understandably brought new focus and doubts about the MAX program. It’s a story about quality assurance at Boeing or Spirit AeroSystems, the maker of the 737 fuselages and the plug door. Series of quality assurance issuesThere have been a series of quality assurance issues in recent months at Boeing and Spirit. Quality assurance is also known as quality control and, in Boeing-speak, “quality escapes” or “quality escapage.” In shorthand, these terms are “defects” in manufacturing or final assembly. And now, loose or missing bolts on the door plug appear to be responsible for its separation from AS 1282.
