The discussion primarily focused on Russia’s unilateral withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative and the subsequent military operations taken by the Russian army after Ukraine’s attack on the Crimea Bridge. Alongside with other Ukrainian Black Sea ports, Odessa was blockaded after Russia launched its special military operation last year. Such a deal is what Zelenskyy mentioned as the “Black Sea Grain Initiative” in his telephone call with Abiy Ahmed. Former World Food Program’s director, David Beasley, has warned such a global food crisis could lead to famine and destabilization, affecting not just Africa, but also regions worldwide. Ethiopia, like any country navigating complex diplomatic waters, should approach its relations with Ukraine with strategic caution.

The keynote speech by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban over the weekend at the Baile Tusnad Summer University in Romania has once again triggered criticism among Hungary’s neighbours. Hungary’s strongman criticised the Romanian foreign ministry, which had advised him on what he should "not talk about" in his speech. Analysts noted that it is relatively uncommon for a prime minister to receive a démarche and that Orban has breached diplomatic etiquette by unveiling its content. According to Hungary's prime minister, minority rights exist and also apply to Hungarians in Transylvania. The Czech government was the first to react to Orban’s speech.

Enat party Logo (resized)borkenaEnat, Party, Ethiopian opposition party on Monday issued a statement accusing the Federal government, Oromia regional state and the Tigray regional state of working to disintegrate the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC). The party said the above-mentioned government entities are making overt and covert activities to disintegrate the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Their move was resisted by followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church in the Oromo region of Ethiopia. However, the government deployed security forces and attacked members of the church who stood first to defend the unity of the church by protecting church premises from being overtaken by groups that the Ethiopian Church excommunicated and condemned as illegal. The Ethiopian church refuted the claim while making efforts to meet with the archbishops with the aim to hold a discussion.
