General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has given further credence to reports that he may be lacing up his boots to contest for the National Chairmanship position of the party. Speaking on Accra-based Radio Gold on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, Asiedu Nketia unequivocally declared that he will not seek re-election for his position which he has held since 2005. According to Asiedu Nketia, his options are now limited to two which is to either retire from serving as a party official or elevate to the position of National Chairman. “I will not contest the General Secretary position for the NDC. Prior to his confirmation, there have multiple reports of Asiedu Nketia’s decision to contest the position of NDC national chairman.

Three people have been confirmed dead after a fuel tanker crashed with a passenger bus on Wednesday in Fumesua, on the Accra-Kumasi Highway. “According to the municipal police commander and fire operation officer, they had a call around 1am of an accident involving VIP bus and a gas tanker from Atuabo. “The Gas tanker was going to offload gas at Sonic gas filling station when it collided with a VIP bus from Asante Mampong heading to Accra, and on the spot two people died. when I went there in the morning, another person was reported dead bringing the number to 3,” he said. Residents in Bawku are said to be living in fear following renewed violence that affected three persons. Unknown gunmen are reported to have shot the three victims around 4 pm on Monday, September 19. A Citi News report also confirmed that a Northern Electricity Development Company, NEDCo transformer was also destroyed during the incident. “Around 8 pm, they just shot the transformer and the light went off,” a resident told Citi News. Kofi Adjei, popularly known as Chilling committed a crime after he stabbed one Kankani to death with scissors during an argument. The court after the trial found him guilty and consequently sentenced the convict to death by hanging following the Attorney General’s prosecution. He has since been sent to the Nsawam Minimum Security Prisons.

The International Monetary Fund has appointed Dr. Leandro Medina to serve as the new country representative for Ghana. According to a Joy Business report, Mr Medina takes over from Dr. Touna Mama whose ‘Duty Tour’ was completed last week after serving in the position since 2018. Prior to his appointment, Dr. Medina served as the senior economist in the Strategy, Policy, and Review Department and the Macro Policy Division at the IMF. Before joining the IMF, Dr. Leandro Medina worked as an international consultant at the Inter-American Development Bank, participating in Portfolio Review and Policy Dialogue missions to Argentina and Uruguay. A team from the Fund led by Carlo Sdralevich subsequently visited Ghana between July 6 – 13, meeting with relevant stakeholders.

In a recent interview with TV3, former President Mahama disclosed that the State had denied him most of his emoluments, such as utilities and travel expenses. Executive Director of the Institute of Energy Security, Nana Amoasi III, has stated that Ghana may not benefit from the reduction in global fuel prices due to the depreciation. According to him, Ghana will continue to gain little or nothing from the reduction in fuel prices until the cedi begins to appreciate. “If the cedi continues on this tangent, then the Ghanaian consumers may not benefit from any price reduction on the international market. The Ghana Cedi is currently sold at GH¢10.51 at some forex bureaus in Accra. However, petrol and diesel are selling above GH¢11 and GH¢13 at various fuel pumps despite some reductions on the global market.
