Cape Coast to go without power for five hours on January 20

The five-hour outage, which will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., is to facilitate the completion and commissioning of upgrade works on a 66-megavolt-ampere (66MVA) transformer at the Cape Coast Substation. In a joint statement issued on Friday, the two power utilities said the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure in the area. The upgrade, according to the statement, is expected to increase the capacity of the substation and improve the stability and reliability of power supply to households and businesses within Cape Coast and surrounding communities. They apologised to residents and businesses likely to be affected by the planned outage and reaffirmed their commitment to delivering improved and reliable power services across the country.

Over 5,000 children at risk as malnutrition crisis hits Nkwanta South

Family in shock as body of church steward goes missing on burial day
According to multiple reports online, the family had completed all funeral preparations, including cooking arrangements, and payments for undertakers, sound systems, canopies, mattresses, accommodation, and other logistics ahead of the burial. 40-year-old Antwi passed away in September 2025, and his remains were deposited at the Assin Brofoyedru Mortuary for preservation. However, when relatives arrived at the facility to retrieve the body for the final funeral rites scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026, mortuary attendants were unable to locate his remains. The development disrupted the entire funeral programme, despite the arrival of mourners from various parts of the country. Reports indicate that Antwi’s body was mistakenly swapped with that of a 75-year-old man and was buried by another family about three months ago.
