The gruelling 2009 vetting of Fifi Kwetey:Having been appointed by the late former president of Ghana, John Evans Atta Mills, as a deputy minister-designate for finance, the vetting of Fifi Kwetey was characterized by stormy arguments throughout the period that lasted more than 7 hours. However, in speaking about that experience during his March 2022 interview with Citi TV, Fifi Kwetey said that the issues were far beyond that. He explained that it was because the NPP knew for a fact that what he spoke were truths. Maybe certain things could have been checked better… it was more like, yeah, this is our time; this is payback time,” he explained. Today, Fifi Kwetey smiles over that incident, stating that what seemed like some animosity between the MPs who grilled him during that vetting, although on the other side of the political divide, are now his friends.

Organized labour has declared an indefinite strike starting December 27, 2022. According to the labour unions, they will only rescind their decision when pension funds are exempted from the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme. The strike is to impress Government to exempt the Pension Funds from the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme. The Exchange Programme is to allow the country to restore sound public finance and sustainable debt levels and to kickstart economic growth following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Former president John Dramani Mahama has reacted to government's announcement that certain categories of its external debts repayments cannot be honoured per agreed terms. Government through the Ministry of Finance in statement dated Monday, December 19 said it will suspend all debt service payments under certain categories of the country’s external debt component. The move according to government is an interim emergency measure pending further agreement with the relevant creditors while some analysts have described it as Ghana effectively defaulting on its external debt.
