Founder and leader of Heaven’s Gate Ministries International, Prophet Nicholas Osei alias Kumchacha has described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the pioneer of demonstrations in Ghana. According to Kumchacha, President Akufo-Addo’s history as an activist goes back to the days of the Jerry John Rawlings administration in 1995. The pioneer of demonstration in Ghana is Nana Akufo-Addo. So if we talk about the IGP of demonstrations it is Nana Addo, he is the Dampare of demonstrations,” Kumchacha stated on Oman Channel. He was speaking about the Arise Ghana demonstration organized to raise governance and economic concerns under the current administration of President Akufo-Addo.

General News of Sunday, 3 July 2022Source: www.ghanaweb.comGhanaians suffering economic hardshipGovernment signs up for an IMF programmeOpposition mock government for decision to seek IMF supportThanks to social media and to news agencies, news travels very fast across the world, such was the case with Ghana’s July 1, 2022 decision to turn to the International Monetary Fund amid an economic downturn. Views GhanaWeb monitored especially on Twitter, showed Nigerians ‘celebrating’ their situation, that they had not gotten as bad as to seek IMF support by way of a programme. Others were also shading fellow Nigerians who have perennially insisted that Ghana was a better economy as compared to theirs. A former Senator, Shehu Sani was among the commenters, he tweeted: "Ghana is reportedly in talks with the @IMFNews for loan. Ghana just went to IMF for support, Nigeria should be rich enough to bail out other African countries.

Gabby in rejecting Mahama’s call cited how the former president had also refused to fire his Finance Minister in 2015 despite a strong push from within the National Democratic Congress. “We remember so well, Sir, agitations within NDC for you to sack Seth Terkper, your finance minister. Mahama in a June 2 Facebook post advised Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ring changes in the economic management of the country. He specifically mentioned the roles of Ofori-Atta and VP Mahamudu Bawumia – head of the Economic Management Team, EMT. He urged the Akufo-Addo to immediately take a bold decision to replace his finance minister.

It is therefore not surprising that he was the first senior member of the party to comment openly on the IMF program and he minced no words in criticizing his government. With Bawumia being viewed as an architect of this economic meltdown and Alan Kyerematen unable to excuse himself from the mess, Kennedy Agyapong’s chances could be boosted with the return to the IMF. If the dumsor of his era won the NPP the elections in 2016, the IMF return could bring him back in 2024. It therefore comes as no shock that for months, people within the NDC and John Mahama have drummed home the IMF return as the only panacea to the current challenges. Whoever gets the nod to lead the party will have to show why after the persistent fuel hikes, ever-increasing transport fares and IMF return, Ghanaians should trust him and the party again.

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta earlier noted that the repercussion of seeking an IMF bailout will not be favourable for the country’s fortunes. Some are questioning why the government has decided to return to the IMF after implementing the most talked about tax measure, E-Levy. "After looting and sharing the country's resources, they run to IMF for a bailout/economic program," another said. IMF loan conditions are unattainable and Ghanaians are going to suffer for that . — Akparibo Felix (@AkpariboFelix) July 1, 2022“We are not going to the IMF, whatever we do, we are not” - Ken Ofori Atta speaking in a town hall meeting on the e-levy in Tamale in February this year.

Some few days after it was revealed that the E-Levy has seemingly failed to achieve its target, the government has finally triggered the process for an IMF bailout. This has received several reactions on social media with some users roping in E-Levy into the conversations. If they decide to go to IMF, E-Levy must be reversed. You can't waste monies on regional townhall meetings about E-Levy and run to IMF in just 2 months. (@Okuluman) July 1, 2022After @NAkufoAddo has authorised an IMF bailout, we're waiting for the cancellation of E-levy which is said to have precluded us from going to IMF.

Despite inadequate tomatoes in major markets in the cities pushing prices high, tomato farmers in Chinto, Yaayaso, Abodobi, and its surrounding villages in Fanteakwa South District in Eastern Region are grappling with high post-harvest losses due to extremely bad roads. June and July are major harvesting months for the tomato farmers in Chinto, Yaayaso, Abodobi, and its surrounding villages. Farmers had to hire tricycles to transport the harvested tomatoes to the Obuoho community, which is about 14 kilometres away, to meet buyers reluctant to come to the community. One farmer said: "Whenever it rains, no car comes here because the road is deplorable, so the tomatoes get rotten on the farms. When it happens like that, we have to hire a tricycle to transport the tomatoes to meet buyers in the next community, which is about 14km before they buy our tomatoes.”Source: ghanaweb.com

A former deputy national organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joshua Akamba, has refuted claims of being arrested by the police during day two of the ‘Arise Ghana’ protest. And then I moved and said if that would be an issue, my driver should take it home because the police had assured us [protestors] of protection,” Joshua Akamba explained to Kwamina Sam Biney in Twi. Setting the record straight, Mr. Akamba stated categorically that the weapon he carried to the ground was for protection and nothing else. According to him, the gun is a licensed weapon which makes it legal for him to carry along anywhere he goes as he’s known many years.
