General News of Monday, 9 February 2026Source: www.ghanaweb.comMembers of Parliament in the Ashanti Region of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have criticised the government’s decision to downgrade the Suame Interchange Project, questioning its funding priorities amid claims of debt-related constraints. “If government could mobilise funds for the Ofankor–Nsawam road and other major projects, why is the Suame Interchange being short-changed?” Asenso-Boakye asked while addressing the media on behalf of the caucus. The MPs described the decision as contradictory, noting that the Suame Interchange was captured under the Big Push Road Programme in 2025, an initiative intended to ensure sustained funding for critical national infrastructure projects. According to the MPs, scaling back the Suame Interchange will prolong traffic congestion in Kumasi, increase transport costs, and lead to continued productivity losses across the city. “Short-changing major projects now will cost the city and the nation far more in the long term,” he added.

In a report drawn from the statement sighted by asaaseradio.com, the Coalition of Unemployed Tertiary Graduates with Disabilities indicated that hundreds of qualified graduates have remained jobless for more than six years despite holding degrees in fields such as Education, Law, Administration and Information Technology. Unemployed Graduates with Disability calls off demonstrationWhile Ghana’s national unemployment rate is estimated at 13 per cent, the group said unemployment among persons with disabilities in the formal sector is nearly double. It stressed that only about 27 per cent of working-age persons with disabilities are employed, compared to more than 56 per cent of able-bodied Ghanaians. “We continue to see systems that favour able-bodied applicants over qualified persons with disabilities,” the statement noted, describing the trend as a major barrier to inclusion in public sector employment. As part of its demands, the group is calling for an immediate roadmap to absorb the backlog of unemployed graduates with disabilities into the public sector, strict enforcement of employment quotas, and incentives for private companies.

General News of Monday, 9 February 2026Source: www.ghanaweb.comA former Minister for Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, has launched a blistering attack on the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), arguing that the party should dissolve itself if it genuinely opposes coup makers. According to adomonline.com report on February 9, 2026, Hammond described the proposed renaming as misplaced, insisting that the government should instead focus on more pressing national challenges, including economic difficulties, unemployment, and infrastructure deficits. According to him, symbolic actions such as changing the airport’s name do little to address the daily struggles of the ordinary Ghanaian. “The founder of the PNDC, now NDC, came to power through a coup. So, if the party is against coup makers like Lieutenant General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka, then they should collapse the NDC and form a new one,” Hammond asserted.
