RUPPs: Inside India's little-known political parties that recieve millions of dollars
There was little to suggest that the locked flat in Anand, in the western Indian state of Gujarat, was the headquarters of a political party. The party is one of more than 2,800 Registered Unrecognised Political Parties, or RUPPs - a vast but little-known tier of Indian politics. These parties are legally registered but have not won enough votes or seats to be recognised at the state or national level. The gap between the money some parties receive and their limited electoral presence has drawn increasing scrutiny from India's tax authorities. It identifies 55.91bn rupees in suspected bogus political donations made by taxpayers seeking tax benefits, as well as 6.65bn rupees in foreign transactions.

Gurugram hit-and-run case: Police detain driver for striking woman motorcyclist
The incident took place on Sunday when Shivani Chauhan was riding with a group of motorcyclists. The driver, identified as Kalyan Bainsla, has denied hitting her deliberately. But Bainsla's lawyer, Naveen Bainsla, denied the allegation, telling the ANI news agency that his client had not been drinking and was travelling with relatives. He also rejected the description of the incident as a deliberate "hit-and-run case", arguing that it was a case of negligent driving. After Bainsla publicly denied hitting her deliberately, Chauhan posted another video on Monday night challenging his version of events.
