Niamh O'Sullivan says it was the right time to step away from MeathMichael BoltonFormer Meath ladies football footballer Niamh O'Sullivan says it was the right time to step away from inter-county football. O'Sullivan enjoyed a decorated career with Meath, and was an important part of the side that won back-to-back All-Ireland titles in 2021 and 2022. "I think, for me, it was nice that I could step out on my own terms. In addition to claiming Division 2 and Division 1 league crowns, O’Sullivan was a pivotal figure as Meath sealed back-to-back All-Ireland SFC titles in 2021 and 2022. Afterwards Armagh did it, Kerry did it, and they went on to All-Ireland success.

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag dismisses ‘fairy tale’ speculation about his futureBy Simon Peach, PA Chief Football WriterErik ten Hag dismissed “fairy tale” speculation about his future as the intensely scrutinised Manchester United manager insisted he remains on the same page as the club hierarchy. United’s poor results coupled with some alarming performances have intensified pressure on manager Ten Hag, whose future was the subject of widespread talk throughout the international fortnight. But the Dutchman says he never feared for his position and was upbeat in a press conference he started by congratulating a reporter for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the Manchester United Foundation. “But that is top football and sometimes you have to face challenges, sometimes it goes up, sometimes it goes down. He faced an illness, but he returned on the training pitch, and he’s available for selection for tomorrow.”

Schools with few students can only be provided teachers on contract basis, announced Sawant a few days ago; teachers on permanent tenure are appointed only if the school has the required student-teacher ratio. Contract teachers mean teachers who are paid less and whose future is insecure – which means that they could be doing a second job simultaneously, or could disappear in the middle of the term if they find a better opportunity. In any case, why should any school employ contract teachers for regular positions? If there is a completely vacant teacher’s post in a functioning school, why should the teacher be on contract just because the students are few? The government’s excuse will, of course, be that they cannot afford to employ tenured teachers for such few students.
