The reform is one of dozens contained in a major examination of Irish housing policy. In its report, the Housing Commission said that housing must be a “unique national priority” with the purpose of supporting social cohesion and economic development. Outlining 83 recommendations, the Commission said that Ireland has an opportunity to change policy to improve the lives of citizens. “These problems have arisen due to the failure to successfully treat housing as a critical social and economic priority, evident in a lack of consistency in housing policy. In addition, it wanted the Department of Housing to provide a sustainable financing model for social housing by setting social housing rents at cost recovery rates.

SSE's earnings inched lower last year in tandem with energy prices due to reduced market volatility. The energy business, formerly Scottish and Southern Energy, revealed its adjusted operating profits fell by about £100million to £2.4billion in the year ending March 2024. This was driven by its thermal and gas storage division, where profits plunged by around a third to £818.9million amid a normalisation in energy commodity prices. Weaker result: SSE, formerly Scottish and Southern Energy, revealed its adjusted operating profits fell by about £100million to £2.4billion in the year ending March 2024In the previous year, the division's profits almost quadrupled as the Ukraine war and loosening Covid-19 restrictions sent oil and gas prices soaring. The firm's renewables segment also scored a stronger result, thanks to higher power prices and operating capacity offsetting falling wind speeds across Scotland.

The good news is that the number of road accidents is down 30% from a decade earlier. Perhaps the reason Goa roads are so unsafe stems from how they drive, not how much. This tells us that the absence of vehicular density is where road accidents are happening in the state. According to official data, 91% of all violations leading to road accidents were due to overspeeding. When considering all the evidence, it is clear that Goa’s road safety record is neither a result of mere chance nor broader industry-wide trends.

Just as the call of the cuckoo signals the beginning of summer, the filling of potholes is always a sign that an election is imminent. No longer do I have to struggle around potholes like a fellow steering a tractor through a field of zigzagging ruts. Anyhow, while I welcome the 'election' tar, I do have a bone to pick with regards to the election poster. Personally, I have nothing against those seeking election, their job is difficult enough. The desecration of the election poster, for amusement purposes, like the corncrake of yesteryear, is but a distant memory.

Verisk has developed clever technology that can help insurers spot this sort of digital image manipulation. It also monitors the metadata of photos - the underlying data that explains how and where a photo has been made.
