Why do they deny us the same rights as Northern Ireland?
There is even talk of Mr Sunak resurrecting Mr Johnson’s political career:. This should not be the stuff of yah-boo politics, it's about human rights; trans women's rights are equal to all women's rights and in turn basic human rights. Mr Sunak is not alone. It has been passed by Scottish Labour Women's Conference. It's a nasty dog whistle against trans rights designed to make lives of trans women worse.

Pancake Tuesday – flippin fantastic
Pancake Tuesday takes place today and from childhood it sparked excitement into my bones. Competition was strong as my grandmother’s laugh cackled through the house when judging which grandchild had the best technique of how to flip the pancake in the pan. From there when we arrived at home in Boho, it was more of the same until you basically passed out in a pancake coma. For Alan and his brother Derek (pictured) flipping pancakes was a real competitive affair. Pancake Tuesday is now a day of the year where we make the time and aim to create that small special moment with our own children.

Cork family offered respite care in Donegal as lack of services for disabled people leaves TD ‘deeply frustrated’
Family of a person with disabilities living in Cork were offered respite care on the other side of the country in Donegal, the chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters has said. Michael Moynihan said he is “deeply frustrated” with the lack of services, particularly respite care, afforded to people with disabilities following the publication of his committee’s review of the sector. Mr Moynihan said the committee heard how one Cork family was told by a national administrator for respite care that they could travel to Donegal if they wanted the service. “What I would like to see changed is that instead of it being means tested, it is care tested. So if the care is necessary, or if the care is deemed to be there, that the State should provide payment for the care,” he said.

Be ye independent (i.e., joyful) thinkers
Second, there’s the joy of recognition for accomplishment (the Republic’s soldier-guardians). The academic paper is an opportunity to experience these three joys at once: the joy of creating, the joy of achievement and the joy of insight. If I do not understand, I need to seek counsel, counsel with the aim of setting me free to think for myself rather than counsel with the aim of replacing my own independent thinking. I would rather wear a C proudly that I earned than an A that is not in truth my own. Courage, humility and authenticity are there to set us free to experience the joy of writing, the joy of achieving and the joy of understanding.

Public services in Scotland will die without economic growth
“My proposition to the Scottish Government has been let’s do the same for the next 30-40 years for Scotland. However, the spending watchdog was highly critical of the strategy, pointing out that almost two years on, the Economic Leadership Group, which was meant to be a “key part” of the NSET, has still not met. Audit Scotland said there is a “gap in collective political leadership as the government has yet to establish its planned Economic Leadership Group”. Sir Tom, looking to the longer-term economic growth plan for Scotland, said: “Let’s go out and be laser-focused about bringing businesses to Scotland. “That means jobs don’t come here, people don’t pay tax her – it’s economic self-harm,” said Sir Tom.

‘Rock star’ sculptor honoured at monument launch
Roscommon sculptor Mark Feeley received a standing ovation at the recent official launch of the 'Souls of Ranelagh' monument. The monument, which was commissioned by the Roscommon Town Team, features three figures, a woman, man, and child, the latter two emerging from the Lecarrow limestone rock as if stepping out of the distant past. During the launch at the Áras an Chontae, chairman of the Roscommon Town Team, Larry Brennan said it was an inspired decision by the Town Team to select Mr Feeley. Being a local man, he believed in it and knew what was wanted,” said Mr Brennan before addressing Mr Feeley himself. “At all times you were a pleasure to work with .” “I always wanted to be a rock star,” Mr Feeley joked as he took the podium.

Five Louth friends climbing four peaks for suicide charity HUGG
Lorcan Fisher, Shane Murphy and Stephen O’Neill have set themselves the demanding challenge to raise funds for HUGG – the Irish charity that provides grief counselling to those who have lost loved ones to suicide. “This will involve twelve hours of climbing and twelve hours of driving and there will be two night climbs,” says Shaun. Shaun says they are delighted with the support they have received so far as all funds go towards HUGG, a national suicide bereavement charity that offers direct support to families who have been bereaved by suicide. "It’s a voluntary organisation set up by Fiona Twomey in 2017 that offers grief counselling and support to families who have been bereaved though suicide.
