RM117mil allocated to ease congestion on Senai-Desaru Expressway
JOHOR BARU: The Federal Government has approved RM117mil to further widen the Senai-Desaru Expressway (SDE) from two lanes to four lanes to ease congestion, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. The Works Minister said the allocation, approved under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), would cover a 4km stretch from Cahaya Baru to the Sungai Johor bridge. “This is a continuation of the ongoing first phase of the SDE expansion. The first phase of the project, which covers a 9.34km stretch from the Sungai Johor bridge to Sungai Semenchu, has been ongoing since November 2024. He said LLM is currently working on a suitable toll fare mechanism, which will be implemented after the festive season.

John Pichtel Obituary
John Pichtel, 68, of Gaston, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 9, 2026, with family by his side. He was born on September 19, 1957, in Staten Island, New York, to Rose Andrewjack-Metz and Stanley Pichtel. On November 9, 1990, John married the love of his life, Theresa Prieshoff, and they enjoyed many happy decades together. He dedicated more than 36 years to Ball State University as a professor, retiring in 2024. He served as a visiting scientist in Scotland, Finland, Ireland, and Italy, and led numerous field studies with Ball State students.

High Court rules presidential advisory offices and appointments unconstitutional
The High Court has declared that the creation of advisory offices for President William Ruto and the appointments of 21 individuals to those offices were unconstitutional. The court ruled that they were made contrary to the provisions of the Constitution and relevant public service laws. Consequently, the court held that these appointments are null and void ab initio, having no legal effect from the outset. Tragic as US-based Kenyan family loses three children in Naivasha accident while on vacation
The fatal crash occurred on January 4, 2026, in Naivasha, along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, cutting short the lives of Emmanuel DeLeon, 13, Kairu Winkelpleck, 6, and their elder sister, Njeri DeLeon, 16. The children were visiting Kenya with their parents when the accident happened. Emmanuel and Kairu died at the scene, while Njeri sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a Nairobi hospital, where she was placed in a medically induced coma.
