Women of Liberia Determined to Ensure 30 percent women’s participation in the Legislature and Compete with Male Counterparts
According to the women group, the women of Liberia are prepared to compete with their male counterparts to achieve the 30% of women participation in the Legislature. “What we are experiencing today is the first phase of the “Lapper Revolution or Movement. The Lapper Revolution or Movement is where the women of Liberia have decided that we (women) are coming on strong in terms of political participation,” she said. Also, Madam Mecdella Cooper said, the “Lapper Revolution or Movement” will make sure that the women of Liberia accomplish 50-50 female representation in the Legislature. This Lapper Revolution, we don’t plan to end this until we have accomplished 50-50 female representation in the country.

Liberia: WIN commences First-Ever Inter-Community Quiz Competition in District 10
Monrovia — The Watkins Initiative For Nations (WIN), under its Community Engagement and Empowerment Program will Friday, March 26, 2021, commence a nine (9) Month inter-community quizzing competition. There will be awareness of health and human rights, counseling and testing for HIV would be conducted throughout the quizzing competition. Our team of judges, moderators, and panelists are drawn from community-based organizations, civil society organizations and pressure groups, human rights organizations, and the Government of Liberia. It will be held in the context of increasing public health and human rights awareness during which consoling and testing for HIV will be carried out,” Mr. Watkins noted. More than 25 students residing in the District are currently benefiting from WIN scholarship and financial aid program.

GIABA Director-General to Pay a High-level Advocacy Mission to Liberia
MONROVIA — GIABA Director General to pay a high-level Advocacy Mission to Liberia in fulfilment of the 33rd GIABA Technical Commission and Plenary directives to engage the Liberian Government on its commitment to the global fight against money laundering and terrorist financing. The delegates are expected to meet President George M. Weah and other High Government Officials. A high-power delegation of the Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) headed by its Director General, members of the Secretariat and some Heads of Financial Intelligence Unit of member states namely: Nigeria, Ghana, and Burkina Faso are expected to visit Liberia from March 29 -31, 2021 for an advocacy mission. This advocacy mission is in fulfilment of the 33rd GIABA Technical Commission and Plenary directives, recommending the specialized body engagement with the political authorities of Liberia. The mission will discuss measures to strengthen Anti –Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing in Liberia, including the second round of Mutual Evaluations of Liberia, the pending legislations to include the Anti-Money Laundering and provisional Remedies of the Proceeds of Crimes Act of 2019, and the Financial Intelligence Agency Act of 2019, among other matters.

MONROVIA – The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Health in collaboration with Partners will on this 26th day of March 2021 officially launch the 2021 Nationwide Polio Vaccination Campaign in Liberia. In February 2021, the Ministry of Health in Liberia declared the Poliovirus outbreak in the country as a public health emergency. Children in Liberia are at a risk of contracting this incurable disease if they are not vaccinated against polio. The Polio Vaccination Campaign will run from March 26-29,2021. Liberia: Supreme Court Orders Elections Commission to Announce Gbarpolu County Senatorial Election Result
Monrovia — The Supreme Court has finally ruled in the controversial December 8, 2020 special senatorial election held in Gbarpolu County. In the ruling, the Court ordered the National Elections Commission (NEC) to announce the final result of the special senatorial election held in the county. “Those entrusted with the authority to investigate election violence must take cue from the mandate of the Constitution which sets timelines for the execution of electoral activities. Madam Kanneh, who had won the highest votes in the county election prior to the stay order, would have been the second female senator in the country. However, in her ruling, Justice Howard-Wolokolie said the NEC lacks subject jurisdiction in the matter because it is a criminal matter.

Liberia Civil Aviation Authority to Undergo International Civil Aviation Organization Audit
MONROVIA – The Managing Director of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) Moses Y. Kollies says all efforts are being exerted by his administration to ensure that Liberia gains its status again begin to register aircrafts. This, according to Mr. Kollie, will help the country’s aviation sector restore best practice and uphold its standard. According to Kollie, strives by LCAA to ensure safety and security standards is geared at upholding international practices in keeping with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. Mr. Kollie explained that in 2006, the institution underwent an ICAO Safety Audit taking into account ICAO standards, which has since prevented the LCAA from registering aircrafts. He underscored the need for the collaborations in the aviation sector, saying the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority alone cannot deal with issues involving ‘search and rescue’ which is an important component of civil aviation.

MONROVIA — Citizens of Tubmanburg Bomi County Tuesday night took to the streets in jubilation of solar-powered streets light turned on by President George Weah. For many of them, this is a lifetime opportunity and arguably the first time in Bomi County. Liberia: Sellers, Buyers Decry Continuous Hike in Prices of Basic Goods and Services
Paynesville – Marketers and buyers alike are decrying the continuous hike in the prices of basic commodities and are saddened that the government, especially the Ministry of Commerce is not doing much to regulate prices or stabilize the economy. Over the past months, the country has experienced consistent increment in the prices of basic goods and services, including gasoline. A buyer in Redlight market said he has observed hike in the prices of sugar, flour, rice, vegetable oil, onion, among others. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry had pronounced the reduction of prices on the liberian market and transportation fare, but to no avail. According to Taylor who also operates a provision store in Paynesville, petroleum, rice and cement prices are regulated by the Ministry of Commerce.

Liberia: Ganta To Saclepea Road Project Under Construction – CICO Assures
NIMBA COUNTY — China Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CICO) says construction work continues on the 39 kilometer stretch of road linking Ganta to Saclepea in Nimba County. CICO through its General Manager Yang Zetao pledged the company overriding commitment in making sure that the 39 kilometer Ganta to Saclepea road project is completed on schedule as has been with all of its project in the past. According to the release, CICO continues to make meaningful impact on the lives of the Liberian people through the construction of roads and bridges since the company begun its operation in Liberia in 2008. Mentioning also that the road project will provide short term work opportunity for local residents, including skilled and unskilled workers as a means of generating income for their families. The company also listed the construction of the Monrovia City Streets, the Vai Town Bridge, Caldwell Road as well as the Red Light to Gbarnga road projects, which created employment opportunities for scores of Liberians over the last few years.

Kafumba Samukai Kromah who was recently named and appointed as FELMAUSA Awareness Ambassador to Liberia arrived in the country two weeks ago and immediately began meeting stakeholders and unveiled his organization plans to support struggling Mandingo people with school subsidies and small business loans. He emphasized the aim and objective of his organization as uplifting the Mandingo tribe in Liberia in every aspect, culturally, financially, educationally, and economically.
