Bina Entrepreneurship Incubator and the Institute of Banking Studies train banking experts in finance of SMEs
The (Libyan) Institute of Banking and Financial Studies of the Central Bank of Libya, in cooperation with Bina Entrepreneurship Incubator Libya, began on Sunday, in Benghazi, the third session of the programme for qualifying entrepreneurs’ advisors and supervisors in SME financing. The programme ends with the trainees being granted an accredited international certificate from the British Institute of Leadership and Management. It also achieves the bank’s goal of financing projects and preserves its rights, as well as achieving building a diversified economy through the entrepreneurial and creative ideas of young people. These can be transformed into successful economic projects through training and qualification, then obtaining financing. This is what the Bina Incubator is keen on achieving, which is concerned with all stages of capacity building among the financing applicant, the project owner, and the financing party, the bank, Arhouma explained.

Martin Longden announced as the new UK ambassador to Libya from October
The UK government announced today that Dr Martin Longden CMG OBE has been appointed Ambassador to Libya in succession to Caroline Hurndall MBE. Martin Andrew Longden was born in the northwestern town of Stockport, near Manchester, in England. From 2016 to 2020 Longden was the Head of the FCO’s Near East Department, Middle East and North Africa Directorate, and later UK Special Representative for Syria. Langdon was the FCO’s Deputy Press Secretary at its Press Office from 2007 to 2009. From 2005 to 2007 he was the FCO’s Strategy Policy Adviser for the Middle East, Policy Planners.

Oil prices steady as markets shuffle back from supply jitters

Ethiopia showed no intention to accept middle solution on GERD in Cairo talks: Egypt to AL
CAIRO – 6 September 2023: Ethiopia has showed no change in its stances regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in the talks that took place in Cairo late in August, said Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry on Wednesday. In parallel, Egypt has also monitored no change in the Ethiopian unilateral position regarding the filling and operation of the dam, Shoukry affirmed. Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s continuous endeavors to reach a peaceful solution on GERD in a way that does not harm the Egyptian water interests and national security. Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia held a new round of tripartite talks on 27-28 August to resume negotiations on the controversial mega dam that Ethiopia is building and operating on the Blue Nile. Egypt and Sudan have urged Ethiopia repeatedly to sign a legally-binding agreement on GERD, which would protect their water rights and people’s interests.

The Libya Fiasco’s Silver Lining

Libya: Interior Minister vows to enforce law despite challenges
Libya’s Interior Minister-designate, Imad Trabelsi, said on Tuesday that the ministry’s focus is on ensuring the security of the capital, Tripoli, as the decision-making centre, Russia Today has reported on its Arabic language news website. “When the capital is secured, the state can issue decisions without pressure from any party, grouping or tribe,” said Trabelsi. “We are in contact with the security and military authorities in the eastern and southern regions.”He pointed out that the state has succeeded in handling legal cases that had accumulated since 2012, and referred them to the Public Prosecutor. Court jails man found inside somebody else’s car and who threatened owner with penknife
A man who waved a penknife at the owner of a car while threatening to kill him, has been jailed. During the compilation of evidence, one of the passersby had testified to having tried to restrain Alghezwi together with the owner of the car. “I told him, ‘I am Muslim [too], so please this is not good.”At that moment, Alghezwi produced a red pen knife and threatened to kill the men, the court was told. One of the officers who carried out the arrest told the court that the man was not behaving normally and appeared to be drunk or under the influence of drugs. Inspector Shamus Woods led the prosecution, while legal aid lawyer Leontine Calleja appeared for the defendant.

151 Bangladeshis return home from Libya detention
A total of 151 Bangladeshi migrants, who were held in detention centre in Libya, returned home on Tuesday (September 5) morning. With the help of the International Organization of Migration (IOM), they were brought back this morning. Bangladesh Ambassador to Libya Major General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Khairul Bashar met the migrants at Benina Airport in Benghazi and bid them farewell. Earlier, a total of 131 Bangladeshi migrants, who were held in detention centre in Libya, returned home on July 31.
