Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) reported today that its subsidiary Akakus Oil Operations has completed the drilling of two development wells (A41H and A44) in reservoir A – NC115 in the Sharara field, with a production capacity each of 3,500 barrels per day. It reported that the preliminary results showed in the two wells containing high-quality rock and reservoir characteristics, and they are expected to enter the production line in the near future.

The Akwa Ibom Independent Electoral Commission had on Sunday declared APC candidate as the winner of Essien Udim LGA where the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, hails from. Essien Udim LGA is the only local government where APC had secured victory in the local government election in the state. But in a viral video online, the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) actually declared PDP candidate as the winner at the polls. Enobong Patrick Friday, polled 55,612 votes to defeat the candidate of the APC, Ntiedo Usoro, who scored 686 votes in the election to emerged winner. He also received more than 25% of the votes in all 13 wards of Essien Udim.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate unsealing and withdrawal of policemen from 23 council secretariats in Rivers State. This is coming as the newly elected council Chairmen from last Saturday’s local government elections assume office today (Monday) across the state. IGP’s directive was contained in a statement by the Rivers Commissioner of Police, Bala Mustapha, on Monday morning following the outcome of council polls. “Consequently, the IGP has ordered the unsealing of the Local Government Secretariats, which were earlier secured by police personnel. “The Rivers State Police Command assures the public of its readiness to maintain peace and order across the state and will continue to act professionally in discharging its duties.

All service requests by an Israel-bound vessel carrying weapons is being rejected, according to Transport Malta. I understand Vessel #Kathrin, carrying weapons destined to Israel, has either arrived or is due to arrive very soon in #Malta. I implore the #Malta government, who has regularly taken a principled stand on Palestine, to act and stop the vessel from advancing. Separately, a Transport Malta spokesperson also told MaltaToday that all service requests being made by the vessel are being rejected. The operation is being coordinated between the transport ministry and foreign affairs ministry.

Malawian referee Godfrey Philip Nkhakananga has been appointed to officiate Friday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya’s Mediterranean Knights at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) also selected Nkhakananga’s compatriots, Clemence Kanduku and Joseph Nyauti, as assistant referees 1 and 2, respectively. Libya’s National Oil Corporation has denied rumors that foreign troops are guarding the country’s oil fields. In a statement on its website, the company said that it “refutes recent media reports claiming the presence of foreign forces guarding certain Libyan oil fields and installations. As a result of the argument, Libya’s oil production plummeted. Libya’s oil fields also often become the prime target for protests and blockades as communities around them try to pressure the government into things like job creation and healthcare funding. The NOC remains firm that the only troops guarding the oil facilities are local.

The Tripoli Criminal Court has issued a conviction against the former head of the Libyan diplomatic mission in Italy, Omar Tarhuni. Libya's Attorney General's Office said the court had examined the charges against the former diplomat, finding him guilty of abuse of power and obtaining illicit gains while in office. During the hearings, the Court assessed the evidence gathered that the former head of mission had used his position for personal gain, accumulating wealth illegally. At the end of the trial, the judge sentenced the defendant to 10 years in prison and also ordered him to return the assets acquired through illegal activities. Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Sunday sworn in the newly elected council chairmen of the 23 local government areas in Rivers State. The council chairmen took their oath office at the Executive Council Chamber of the Rivers Government House in Port Harcourt, State Capital. The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) had declared Action Peoples Party (APP) won 22 chairmanship seats while Action Alliance Etche Local government area. The election was held on Saturday across the state amidst violence and protests from loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The exercise was held on Sunday hours after the chairmen were issued certificates of return by the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, Adolphus Enebeli.

The Libya Olympiad in Informatics (LOI) announced on Saturday the postponement of the Qundus (Beaver) Competition for the year 2024-2025 to ensure maximum participation of students. The Ministry of Education said on its Facebook page, “The new date will be set during next November, to ensure not to be hold at the midterm exam schedule”. The competition brings together all levels, from basic to secondary education, males and females, and from various cities and villages, according to the ministry.

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the death of three suspected kidnappers who were involved in the attempted abduction of the wife of the member representing Warri South Constituency 1 in the State House of Assembly, Hon. According to a statement issued on Sunday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said its operatives also recovered four AK47 rifles from the deceased suspects. Recall that suspected kidnappers had ambushed Mrs. Oruoye in attempt to kidnap her and in the process killed two mobile policemen and the driver of the lawmaker’s wife at Okoloba Junction along Jakpa Road in Effurun area of the city. However, irked by the incident, the state commissioner of police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered his men to go after the fleeing suspects and ensure that they were arrested. The hoodlums immediately abandoned the vehicle shattered with bullets and escaped with bullet injuries.
