Libya says attempts to suspend operations at Sharara oil field are ‘political blackmail’
Palestinian armed group Hamas’s political leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran on Wednesday in an attack blamed on Israel, which has not directly commented on it. The killing came hours after an Israeli strike on Beirut killed the military chief of Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement, Fuad Shuk. As the region braced for further escalation, Hezbollah and Israel kept up their near-daily exchanges of fire. Tehran has said it expects Hezbollah to hit deeper inside Israel and no longer be confined to military targets. Far from the Lebanese border, the Israeli military said around 15 rockets had crossed from the southern Gaza Strip into Israel on Monday, with medics reporting one injury.

Libyan nationals charged with immigration violations to appear
Ninety-five Libyan nationals charged with contravening South Africa’s Immigration Act are expected to return to the White River Magistrates Court in Mpumalanga today. The accused allegedly lied during their visa applications, claiming they were coming to South Africa for security training. They were found engaged in military training at a farm outside White River near Masoyi over a week ago. Oil Climbs From Seven-Month Low As Israel Braces For Attack
Oil rose from a seven-month low as tensions in the Middle East intensified ahead of an anticipated strike on Israel by Iran. Brent climbed above $77 a barrel after closing at its lowest since Jan. 10 on Friday, while West Texas Intermediate traded near $74. Israel is preparing for a possible attack from Iran and regional militias in retaliation for assassinations of Hezbollah and Hamas officials. Crude is now almost flat for this year, after gaining on OPEC+ supply cuts and concerns the conflict in the Middle East could impact production from the region. Production from Libya’s Sharara field was reduced by at least 50,000 barrels a day from Saturday night.

Leader at Fezzan Movement denies links to closure of Sharara oil field
Leader a the Fezzan Movement, Bashir Al-Sheikh, confirmed that Saddam Khalifa Haftar was the one who ordered the closure of Sharara oil field in response to an arrest attempt in Italy based on an arrest warrant issued by the Spanish Attorney General. In a video recording, Al-Sheikh denied being linked to closing Sharara oil field, stressing that Saddam Haftar issued immediate instructions by phone to close the field. Al-Sheikh rejected the accusation against the movement of closing the field, stressing that it had nothing to do with the closure. Al-Sheikh said that the closure of Sharara field, which is operated by the Spanish company Repsol, did not encounter any confrontation from any of those who are speaking words with no actions, adding that those who are talking now cannot reopen Sharara oil field without speaking to Saddam Haftar. Al-Sheikh explained that when the Fezzan Movement closed oil in the past, it was for the rights of the people, but those who are closing the oil now are doing so for their personal interests.

Libya floods: Experts warned about Derna dams for nearly 40 years, state prosecutor saysExperts warned about the structural integrity of the Derna dams for almost 40 years, a Libyan state prosecutor said, as the search continues for bodies after last week's devastating floods. Concerns were first raised in 1986 after the dams - built by a Yugoslavian construction company in the 1970s - suffered major damage after a severe storm. A study commissioned by the Libyan government a decade later revealed their structures contained cracks and fissures, according to the country's general prosecutor, Al-Sediq Al-Sour. In 2007, the Turkish firm Arsel Construction Company was contracted to maintain the two dams and to build a third. Many foreign companies fled Libya after the NATO-backed uprising and civil war in 2011 in which long-serving ruler Muammar Gaddafi was toppled.

FM Fidan’s Egypt visit to bolster bilateral ties, prepare for strategic council meeting
The visit, at the invitation of Egyptian Foreign Minister Bedr Abdulati, will focus on preparations for the upcoming High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting, set to be co-chaired by the Presidents of both countries. Libya Slams Political Blackmail as Biggest Oil Field Cuts Output
Libya’s internationally recognized government alleged “political blackmail” as production began to be cut at the OPEC nation’s largest oil field. Production at Sharara has dropped by at least 50,000 barrels a day to 210,000 since employees received orders to trim the southern field’s output on Saturday night, according to people familiar with the matter. They asked not to be identified as they aren’t authorized to speak to the media.

EU4SKILLS project kicks off to boost jobs and close the skills gap in Libya
A cooperation agreement was signed in Tripoli yesterday between the Tripoli based Ministry of Economy and Trade and Expertise France to launch the EU4Skills project. The project is supported by the EU in Libya and co-financed by the French government. Project aimsProject implementors Expertise France say the project is an important step towards enhancing skills, employability and achieving sustainable economic development. It aims to bridge the gap between education outputs and the labour market, integrate digital technology into economic activities, support the transition towards a green and blue economy. It also aims to improve the performance of banking and financial institutions to facilitate access to finance for small and medium enterprises.The agreement was signed by Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwej, and the representative of Experts France in Libya and Tunisia, Stefan Orville, in the presence of the Ambassador of the European Union to Libya, Nicola Orlando, the Ambassador of France to Libya, Mostafa Mihraje, the representative of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohamed Sweid, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Saleh Al-Ghoul, the Director of the Institute of Banking and Financial Studies, Dr. Fathi Aqoub, and several representatives of the concerned institutions in addition to directors of departments at the Ministry of Economy.On the sidelines of the meeting, a contract was signed under which the European Union Mission in Libya appointed Expertise France as implementors of the project.

High school exam results to be declared on Thursday
The Director General of the National Center for Examinations, Ahmed Masoud, has stated that the center is completing the results of the certificate of completion of secondary education, first round, reviewing school exam scores. Masoud added that the announcement day of the result will be next Thursday, according to the center’s statement on its Facebook page.

In the capital’s southern suburbs — a Hezbollah stronghold — tens of thousands of black-clad women and men in military uniform joined Thursday’s funeral procession for slain commander Fuad Shukr. “I am sad people are dying in southern Lebanon and Gaza, but resistance is not just about carrying a gun and fighting,” said 45-year-old Olga Farhat. Fireworks opened the dance show, hours after Hezbollah buried Shukr, who was killed in an Israeli air strike in the southern suburbs on Tuesday. “The Lebanese have yet to renounce using violence against each other, no matter how big their disagreements,” she said. Foreign airlines have suspended or canceled flights to Beirut but many Lebanese expatriates are still pouring in, although some have cut their holidays short.

65 immigrants deported through Amsaad border crossing
The Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency has announced the deportation of 65 illegal Egyptian immigrants through the Amsaad border crossing. The agency indicated that the immigrants were stopped during a campaign launched by the Benghazi branch in recent days, confirming the arrest of 2,017 illegal immigrants within a month.
