THE key to great putting is practice and with the PuttOUT Premium and Platinum Pressure Putt trainers, you can take that practice anywhere. With a specifically shaped parabolic ramp, each ‘made’ putt is returned to the player the same distance it would have gone past the hole had it missed – anything else is a miss. The new trainers have an alignment stick holder towards the top of the ramp that acts as a rubber grip for the Putting Plane Alignment Stick Set. The PuttOUT Premium Pressure Putt trainer is available in four colours – coral, mint, green and stone. Available exclusively from MST Golf stores, the PuttOUT Pressure Putt trainer retails for RM229 (Premium) and RM539 (Platinum).

At the same time, only 16.5% of the 15 million workforce are paying individual income tax. Going digitalThe digitalisation of tax administration and tax reporting is an important consideration towards achieving higher tax compliance and revenue collection. In Malaysia, an online platform for submission of tax worksheets electronically, known as the Malaysian Income Tax Reporting System (MITRS), was introduced. This paved the way for digitalisation and standardisation of tax reporting and the exchange of information electronically — replacing paper-based submissions. Let’s make it simpleThe simpler the tax system, the greater the desire to comply with our tax laws, especially if we want to encourage small businesses to be part of our tax system.

NEW DELHI (Oct 30): India has proposed new rules to lower emissions and fight climate change, including setting a minimum share of renewable energy to be used by its industries, the federal power ministry said on Saturday. The proposals, aimed at promoting green Hydrogen as an alternative to the fossil fuels currently used by industries, will be made effective through amendments to India's 2001 Energy Conservation Act. The proposed amendments would facilitate the development of a carbon market in India and prescribe minimum consumption of renewable energy either as direct consumption or indirect use through grid, the power ministry said in a statement. "This will help in reduction of fossil fuel based energy consumption and carbon emission to the atmosphere." The announcement comes just days after India rejected calls to announce a net zero carbon emissions target and said it was more important for the world to lay out a pathway to reduce such emissions and avert a dangerous rise in global temperatures.

The politicians responsible for creating this fuss seem to have realised their mission because the government has finally intervened and insisted the manufacturer change the name. Even the ministry’s Deputy Minister, Datuk Rosol Wahid, reportedly agreed it was a non-issue when replying on the matter in Parliament, along with Pengerang MP Datuk Azalina Othman Said. Does that mean that soon, we would also have to ban or rename root beer because we don’t want to be confused? Similarly, Malaysia Airlines’ cabin crew, including Muslims, have been serving liquor to first and business class passengers since its inception. So, if most of us had never heard of Timah, we would also be surprised about the existence of Malaysian-made whiskey.

The bigger opportunity, in my view, is not so much in introducing new taxes, but rather in rethinking and redesigning the tax administration systems. While tax is not voluntary, the term “voluntary compliance” recognises that in many aspects of the current tax system, taxpayers make their own choices on the reporting, calculation and payment of tax. Imagine the increase in tax revenue if we could bring these activities into the tax fold. This is the future of tax administration — digital, in real time and with probably no tax returns even needing to be submitted. Starting next year, the government will also provide a RM2 billion guarantee to banks via the Housing Credit Guarantee Scheme to provide gig workers, micro-entrepreneurs, and farmers with access to financing. "I've heard gig workers, micro-entrepreneurs, and farmers complaining that they find it difficult to buy a house as they do not have a fixed income, making it difficult for them to get a housing loan. "Some of them actually have the ability to repay the loan but there is no proof of fixed income," he said.

To that end, the Digital First Programme was announced as part of Budget 2022, with the goal of increasing the use of cloud computing in the public sector, thereby reducing the use of physical storage and inculcating a paperless culture.
