The pan-European STOXX 600 index was down 2.2% by 1212 GMT, with mining stocks plunging 5.2% on a slide in commodity prices. Asian equities ended sharply lower following a torrid session for China Evergrande Group, the world's most indebted property developer. Overall, 16 central banks are scheduled to hold meetings this week, including in the UK, Norway, Switzerland and Japan. China-exposed luxury stocks such as LVMH, Kering , Hermes and Richemont fell between 2% and 3.2%, extending sharp losses from last week. All major European subindexes were lower, with healthcare , utilities, food and beverage and real estate posting the smallest declines.

Hong Kong singer-actor Nicholas Tse, 41, was in the news recently for saying he’s renouncing his Canadian citizenship to become a Chinese citizen. His other entrepreneurial ventures include in the food industry via his own restaurant and food brand, Chef Nic. In a report by a Taiwanese magazine last year, Tse has a net worth of more than NT$4bil (RM589mil). A new report by Hong Kong media reveals that the Live Viva singer has become even wealthier – he’s earned over HK$56.6mil (RM30mil) in less than a year from dabbling in stock investment. KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 411 suicide attempts has been recorded since the movement control order (MCO) was enforced in March last year, says the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry. The ministry said based on data from the Home Ministry, there were 190 suicide attempts from March until December last year, and another 221 from January to August this year. The figure was provided in response to Su Keong Siong (PH-Kampar), who asked the ministry to state figures and statistics in regards to suicide attempts and domestic violence since the MCO began. Su also asked about the government's plans in addressing rising suicide attempts and domestic violence across the country. There has been a rise in mental health issues following the pandemic.

Jafperi Noor, 54, and Rohani, 49, an Indonesian, pleaded not guilty after the charges against them were read before Judge Rozina Ayob. They were alleged to have jointly committed migrant smuggling against six men and a woman, all aged between 24 and 51, at a civil servants' quarters at Jalan Kasturi P17 (Jalan P17), Precinct 17 in Putrajaya at 10.15pm on June 22. Lawyer Farhan Maarof, who represented Jafperi, requested bail on the grounds that the accused had cooperated well throughout the investigation. Meanwhile, lawyer K. Vijeyini who represented Rohani did not make any bail request.

MACC assistant commissioner, Mohd Nasharudin Amir, said Muhammad Shafee admitted this when giving his statement to the MACC on July 28, 2017. Zulfaqar said Muhammad Shafee also informed he provided legal services to clients from Barisan Nasional over election petitions from 2004 to 2006, in which 46 files were opened. "Muhammad Shafee also explained that he had met Najib on Sept 5, 2013, and stated that the total cost of legal services provided was about RM12mil. "During the meeting, Muhammad Shafee confirmed that he had informed Najib that he needed money to buy a house worth RM9.5mil and Najib told him to take RM9.5mil first before issuing two checks worth RM4.3mil and RM5.2mil respectively. "According to Muhammad Shafee, Najib agreed that the RM9.5 million would be a loan until Najib comes up with a rationalisation (for the payment),” the witness said.

PUTRAJAYA (Sept 20): A Hong Kong-based company which container was detained by Malaysian authorities in February this year has been convicted by a Hong Kong court for violating the Waste Disposal Ordinance (WDO). Department of Environment (DoE) director-general Wan Abdul Latiff Wan Jaffar, in a statement today, Union Fortune Limited was charged in the Fanling Magistrate’s Court on Sept 14 and fined HKD13,000 (about RM7,000) for violating the WDO. Wan Abdul Latiff said a container was detained in Malaysia on Feb 21 by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, as a result of cooperation and information sharing between the two countries’ enforcement agencies on illegal transboundary movement activities. The container was sent back on April 8 and arrived in Hong Kong on May 6. Meanwhile, Wan Abdul Latiff said the DoE had so far detained 151 containers carrying illegal scheduled wastes with 67 of them having been sent back.

PUTRAJAYA: Teenagers aged 12 to 17 will be able to walk in for their Covid-19 vaccination at selected PPVs (Covid-19 vaccination centres), says Khairy Jamaluddin. The Health Minister said the ministry will be announcing the list of selected PPVs on Tuesday (Sept 21). “Tomorrow, we will be announcing a list of PPVs in states where teenagers can walk in and receive their vaccination. Khairy said for the walk-in process for teens, parents or guardians must accompany their children. The minister said the government is targeting at least 60% of teens to receive at least one vaccination dose by November, and at least 80% by January next year.

PMB Technology is an investment holding company, which engages in the manufacture and sale of aluminum products. Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd is PMB Technology’s largest shareholder with a 20.87% stake. In the second quarter ended June 30, PMB Technology’s net profit surged to RM11.58mil against RM1.36mil in the same quarter a year ago.
