STUDENTS will have to pay for the entire month’s bus fare even though they are attending classes for only half the month, according to the Federation of Malaysian School Bus Operators Association president, reports China Press. Its president Amali Munif Rahmat said that operators will have to bear the same cost of running a business even though the number of bus trips a student takes has reduced. “A bus driver will have to memorise each child’s face, the school they go to, the home address and the time classes end. He expects that there will be a fall in the number of students taking the school bus due to the pandemic. To prevent new outbreaks at schools, Cheah urged the government to conduct periodic testing to put everyone at ease.

Slice of durian life: Kee’s comic strips tell about the stories of daily Malaysian life and current affairs. The man behind Kee’s World started his career as an editorial artist in 1981. Four years later, he introduced a cartoon strip called It’s A Durian Life in Sunday Star. Kee explained that he chose the king of fruit as the title of his cartoon strip simply because of the element of surprise often provided by opening a durian. But despite technological advancement even in drawings, Kee prefers doing it the manual way, using pens and colour markers.

Paris: There is no current need for the general population to be given third doses of Covid-19 vaccines. This is as the vaccines are effective enough at preventing severe cases of Covid-19, according to a report in The Lancet medical journal published on Monday. The new report by scientists, including from the WHO, concluded that even with the threat of Delta, “booster doses for the general population are not appropriate at this stage in the pandemic”. She said vaccine doses should be prioritised to people around the world still waiting for a jab. Israel has gone further, offering children 12 and older a third dose five months after receiving a second jab.

It’s cheaper compared to other activities, and when a “good” movie hits, there’s nothing like the feeling of having shared something magical with the audience. So, imagine my surprise and disappointment when I found out it is currently slated for release in Malaysia in the middle of October. Clamping down on piracy is a useless endeavour, as determined individuals will always find a way around to getting free entertainment. Piracy has also likely accelerated tenfold during the Covid-19 pandemic, as films were released on streaming services in the United States. I believe film exhibitors and studios will potentially lose out on much-needed revenue by delaying the screening of highly anticipated films like Shang-Chi.

LONDON (Reuters) - If justification were needed for Chelsea's decision to spend 97 million pounds to bring Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge, the Belgian provided it with a master striker's goal on Tuesday. With little over 20 minutes remaining Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta delivered a peach of a cross towards Lukaku and the Belgian speared his header past keeper Stanislav Kritsyuk. "It was an excellent header, a well-timed cross by Azpilicueta," said German Tuchel, who has transformed Chelsea since replacing Frank Lampard in January. Chelsea did not have a shot on target in the first half but picked up the pace after the break. I felt a huge intensity from us which we brought to the game," Tuchel said.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians have expressed their disappointment over the government’s move to appeal last week’s High Court decision which allowed Malaysian mothers the right to confer citizenship to their children. Two of Rekha’s three children are still waiting for their Malaysian citizenship – after ten years of applying and re-applying. Following the landmark High Court decision, the government filed a notice of appeal this week. This, says NGO Family Frontiers who filed the suit along with six Malaysian mothers, sends a clear message that the government is in favour of “the continued discrimination and marginalisation of Malaysian mothers”. “Justice delayed is justice denied,” the group said in their statement, where it also called on Malaysians to sign a petition calling on the government to withdraw its appeal.

KUALA LUMPUR: More economic sectors are allowed to reopen as the lockdown move is no longer feasible as it is feared that it can have more negative implications, including on the mental health of Malaysians, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. He said the reopening of the sectors would not only help speed up economic recovery but also give the people the opportunity to improve their livelihoods. “The reopening of 11 economic sectors in states under Phase One of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) was appropriate due to the high vaccination rates in the states. Ismail Sabri also said that 74.7% of Malaysia’s adult population had been fully vaccinated while 91.6% has received at least the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. “When we reopen (the economic sectors), we see people beginning to flock to holiday destinations and some are not even wearing face masks.

Mueller gave Bayern the lead in the 34th minute of the Group E clash with a strike from outside the area which deflected off Barca defender Eric Garcia to confound goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. "I can't complain about the team's attitude but there's a big difference in quality between the two teams," said Barca coach Ronald Koeman. While Barca despaired at their inferiority, Bayern revelled in another dominant performance against the Catalans, who they also hammered 3-0 at the Camp Nou in the 2013 semi-finals. We gave very little away at the back and going forward, we could have scored one or two more." "Overall I think the scoreline was a bit unfair but we cannot kid ourselves, they were far better than us."

LONDON (Reuters) -Romelu Lukaku opened his Champions League account for Chelsea as his powerful header earned the holders an unconvincing 1-0 victory over Zenit St Petersburg at Stamford Bridge in their Group H opener on Tuesday. Chelsea were hardly convincing, however, and Thomas Tuchel's side did not even manage a shot on target in a pedestrian first half. They did improve in a far more entertaining second period in which Zenit looked capable of springing a surprise. A cagey first half ended with Zenit's keeper Stanislav Kritsyuk not even required to make a save as Chelsea struggled to get the ball to an isolated Lukaku. Kai Havertz, Chelsea's hero from last season's final in Porto, came off the bench in the 63rd minute, replacing Ziyech.

BERN, Switzerland (Reuters) - Manchester United captain Harry Maguire said poor discipline cost his side in their 2-1 Champions League defeat to Young Boys on Tuesday, but insisted there was plenty of time left to turn things around. Aaron Wan-Bissaka's 35th-minute sending off proved costly, with no side going on to win the Champions League previously after losing their opening match in the competition's history. "Of course, discipline is a huge part of tournament football," Maguire said. "With Jesse, no footballer likes making mistakes but it's obviously part and parcel of the game," Maguire added. Young Boys coach David Wagner was delighted with his side's famous victory.

BERN, Switzerland (Reuters) -Substitute Jordan Siebatcheu scored a stoppage-time winner to earn Young Boys a 2-1 victory over 10-man Manchester United in their Champions League opener on Tuesday. Ronaldo was then replaced in the second half as United again changed formation, with the visitors needing a fine late save from goalkeeper David de Gea to keep Young Boys at bay. But the drama was not over and Siebatcheu's strike, timed at 94 minutes and 22 seconds, was the latest winning goal in a Champions League match since Lucas Moura’s effort for Tottenham Hotspur against Ajax Amsterdam in the 2019 semi-finals. Young Boys, who became the 36th different side Ronaldo has scored against in the Champions League - no player has found the net against more opponents in the competition – were then gifted a way back into the match by Wan-Bissaka. Christian Fassnacht then almost immediately levelled, volleying just wide as the hosts looked to make their numerical advantage count.
