When Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was sworn in as Prime Minister, it was also nomination day for two seats. It would be disastrous for multiracial Malaysia. Many of us who gave up on Malaysia and its politicians have found that, finally, we can recover what we’ve lost and still salvage the situation. Malaysia must move on. Congratulations Saudara Anwar Ibrahim and may you succeed in restoring Malaysia to its former glory!

After dispossessing Abdulelah Al-Malki and slotting home eight minutes from the end for an unexpected 2-0 win, Poland's most prolific marksman dived to the ground and team mates piled on top of him as they all celebrated Lewandowski finally breaking his World Cup duck. The pressure was always on for the Barcelona forward after failing to score in Poland's three matches in the 2018 World Cup and Tuesday's opening draw against Mexico. Aged 34, and with Poland's patchy World Cup qualifying record, Qatar might have been his last chance. Poland coach Czeslaw Michniewicz switched tactics from the Mexico match where Lewandowski was the sole forward. "I think the older I get, the more emotional I get, and I'm aware that when it comes to the World Cup, it might be my last World Cup actually," Lewandowski said after scoring his 77th international goal.

Economic growth has slowed to the point where some now believe that Thailand is stuck in the middle-income trap. Cyclically, Thailand is looking good in a bad year for the rest of the worldMost forecasters are downcast about the global economy in 2023. One reason why Thailand’s economy will shine is the tourism recovery. • Foreign direct investment (FDI) will drive up private investment: Private investment is still below pre-pandemic levels. Strong reserves of resilience will help Thailand weather the volatility in the global economyThere are, of course, downside risks in the near term but it looks like these are likely to be manageable.

Taking drugs to control diabetes and lower cholesterol may reduce a person’s risk of developing a common eye disease, a new study suggests. Researchers found that people taking drugs to lower cholesterol had a 15% reduced risk of developing AMD, compared to those who were not taking the drugs. Meanwhile, people taking medicine to control diabetes appeared to have a 22% lesser risk. No such associations were found for the other types of drugs being taken by people involved in the study. “Our study indicates an association of systemic use of LLD (lipid-lowering drugs) and antidiabetic drugs with lower AMD prevalence across several European cohort studies,” the authors wrote.

BEIJING: China’s financial regulators stressed the need for facilitating financing for the real estate sector to ensure economic stability. The programme of “the second arrow” – a risk-sharing scheme to facilitate bond financing of private enterprises, including private real estate enterprises – was also expanded, he said. “We should pay close attention to the difficulties and challenges facing the real estate sector,” Yi Huiman, chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), said at the forum on Monday. The CSRC will support real estate enterprises’ plans to improve their balance sheets, mergers and acquisitions in the real estate sector and equity financing of enterprises that have a certain size of real estate business, he said. As the country ramps up support to stabilise the real estate sector, some experts said the over-five-year LPR still has room to drop in the coming months, which will help shore up home-buying demand and further stabilise the real estate sector.
