Personal trainer Kyra Seiler has just completed her Masters at AUT in strength and conditioning, and runs a strength training gym coaching busy people through short, intense strength workouts. Seiler says the benefits of any exercise are well established, but strength training should be in every person's fitness routine. "A habit that changes the lives of people I've seen with a terminal diagnosis of cancer... is to every day, at the end of the day, notice three good things. "To counteract that, we have to notice the good things so that our brains can be rewired for optimism." ADVERTISEMENTThe science shows the good things don't have to be huge, Crichton emphasises, but this exercise can be a big contributor to resilience.

One festival goer said organisers had done what they could to prepare but because the rain was persistent some areas had become an “absolute mud bath”. Adam Bennett, promoter of the Highlife Festival at Ascension Wine Estate in Matakana, said they had brought in 800sqm of flooring and marquees which could accommodate 80% of festival goers. Yesterday I had 100% confidence we were able to deliver a safe festival,” festival promoter Adam Bennett said. It was the worst weather he had experienced at a festival. He felt the bus system taking people away from the event could have been run better, Reeder said.

Coco Gauff is back in Auckland, where she'll try to defend her trophy from last year at the ASB Classic, but the bigger goal is to win another Grand Slam. 2023 was an interesting year for Coco Gauff because it had highlights and some less good things happening. For example, she started last year by winning the Auckland event, which was the perfect way to start the year, but things went sideways after that. It happened in the leadup to the US Open, where Gauff played really well, winning a few trophies. Now, looking ahead to 2024, Gauff doesn't really feel any added pressure.

Coco Gauff broke out as a teenager, and she felt the pressure of that because she thought she needed to win a Grand Slam while still a teenager. Coco Gauff essentially broke out as a 15-year-old kid at Wimbledon by beating Venus Williams of all people at the event. She admitted to stuff.co.nz, ahead of her return to the ASB Classic in Auckland, that she felt like she needed to win a Grand Slam as a teenager to meet the expectations set early in her career. The way I came up, I felt like I had a clock and I needed to win as a teenager. So I felt like doing that was a bit of pressure relieved by winning as a teenager.

Arise Sir Trevor: Former Speaker is now Wellington’s newest knightWhen Sir Trevor Mallard next wanders into the Wainuiomata Rugby Football Club it is a pretty good bet that no-one will call him Sir Trevor. He was one of five New Zealanders made a Knight or Dame Companion of The New Zealand Order of Merit. I didn’t ever like Trevor Mallard. ***At Helen Kelly’s Funeral in Wellington, Mallard stood and recounted his personal trauma in the wake of the Pike River disaster asking Helen, ‘what could I have done differently to have prevented that’. Mallard getting a knighthood is everything shameful in NZ politics.

Photo: SuppliedLiquidators have formally demanded nearly $800,000 from the director of a failed eco-travel company who lost millions of dollars in customer deposits to bad cryptocurrency trades. But We Are Bamboo director Colin Salisbury has rejected the liquidators’ suggestion that he breached his legal duties, despite leaving hundreds of customers out of pocket by thousands of dollars. Affected customers have shared their frustration at the news, saying all of Salisbury’s assets should be seized until they were paid back. The Lower Hutt-based ethical travel company, run by Salisbury and his colleague Mark Foster-Murray, announced in late October 2022 it was closing, blaming the failure of the business partly on Covid-19. "The liquidators met with their solicitors to consider the points raised and intend to respond once further investigations have taken place."
