Oyo demolishes illegal structures, counsels residents
The Oyo State Government has demolished some structures in the Omololu Olunloyo Government Reservation Area, Ring Road, Adeoyo, Ibadan, over illegal acquisition of land, unlawful entry and non-compliance with physical planning rules and regulations. She explained that several notices were served by the Bureau of Physical Planning over the years, but the affected occupants failed to do the needful. He said, “Historically, this place was acquired by the government of Western Region for Adeoyo State Hospital; part of it is for GRA, and the traditional owners were duly compensated. Successive administrations have sounded notes of warning, but people thought the government was joking, so we decided to move around today and act accordingly. “We realised that some are practising agriculture, which is very wrong in a GRA.

Max Air: NCAA probes oil firms over contaminated aviation fuel
The Director-General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Musa Nuhu, has stated that the agency is investigating some oil companies in relation to the contamination of Jet A1 sold to Max Air some days ago. According to the DG, NCAA has identified three aviation fuel suppliers in the course of its investigation into the circumstances that led to contamination in the commodity supplied to Max Air some days ago. He added, “Yes, it’s true, the operations of the Max Air B737 fleet have been suspended for a series of issues they’ve had over a couple of times. 101-year-old tree that gushes water in Europe
A unique phenomenon showing water flowing out of a 101-year-old mulberry tree in Southern Europe has left people in awe of natureThe British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that the phenomenon occurs each year for a few days. Also, India Times, in a report, said that the 101-year-old tree which turns into a fountain for a few days after a heavy rainfall has had people in awe for quite a long time. The 101 year old mulberry tree is located in the village of Dinosa, Montenegro. The mulberry tree, is located above reservoirs near the bank of a river. Water gushes out of mulberry trees during heavy rains, and it happens because underground springs, which floods during heavy rainfall, create a strong pressure that sends water gushing out of the trunks of the mulberry tree.

The Federal government is set to replace dissolved federal government board appointments as President Bola Tinubu constitutes a special committee headed by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Gbajabiamila tasked with the responsibility to replace affected board appointmentsThe special committee is tasked with the responsibility of creating selection and nomination modalities in line with the law governing the requirements and qualifications expected of appointees in the affected Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). According to a source within the Presidency, “ Tinubu demands thoroughness in understanding the agencies whose establishment Act mandates federal character representation or specified educational and technical expertise.”Members of the special committee who will be working alongside the Chief of Staff are; Secretary to Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, Special Adviser to the President on Political and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mallam Yau Darazo and some legal and private sector experts as members. Notably, President Tinubu previously announced the dissolution of existing federal government boards, with exceptions for selected agencies, on June 19, 2023, through a statement signed by Willie Bassey, Director of Information in the Secretary to the Government of the Federation’s office.

Borno: Army tasks troops on decisive action against terrorists
Former Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Maj. Gen Ibrahim Ali has charged troops of Operation Hadin Kai fighting Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Borno and other parts of Northeast Nigeria never to give the terrorists time and chance to recuperate and start carrying out attacks again. Harnessing benefits of fuel subsidy removal
Though there are no institutionalised safety net programmes for most Nigerians, which is why fuel subsidy is regarded as one major way in which the government supports the over 63 per cent multi-dimensionally poor masses. According to Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative reports, fuel subsidy payments have gulped N13.7tn in the country’s national budgets between 2005 and 2021, an equivalent amount to the entire budget for health, education, agriculture and defence in the last five years. In the 2023 budget, President Muhammadu Buhari allocated N3.3tn to fund fuel subsidy for the first half of the year 2023, having (according to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation), spent N4.39tn on the same, in 2022. Subsidy reforms, resultantly, will be creating more fiscal space in the country’s general budgeting, hence increased fund allocation to critical MDAs. Finally, the President must ensure that round pegs are put in round holes in his appointment of officials to spearhead key reform agenda, while ensuring citizens’ involvement and provision of timely and accessible information on the utilisation of funds saved from the fuel subsidy removal.

One burnt alive, others detained, as villagers nab transformer vandals in Nnewi
A suspected transformer vandal met his waterloo in Anambra State on Wednesday as village youths captured and burnt him alive during a vandalization operation in the state. It was gathered that the incident happened at Ifite village in Ezinifite, Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state. “The suspects, on sensing the presence of the villagers and the security, rushed into their cars and zoomed off. The first bus carrying four of them had escaped, but the people couldn’t catch them,” the eyewitness said. The captured suspects were reportedly beaten by the villagers, and the one who had been shot earlier in the leg was burned alive by the angry mob.

Court reserves judgment on property ownership rights in Kano metropolis
However, when the case resumed on Wednesday for hearing, counsel to the Applicant, Barrister Bashir Ibrahim urged the court to enforce fundamental rights of his client. The Counsel to the applicant further stated that the issue of property or who is the properly owner of the property is pending before state high court. He then maintained that the Kano Polythenic has it existence law that protects all its property, that is Kano Polythenic Law 2015. The Director argued that what is before the court is the Private Ownership Title trying to superceed public ownership, praying the Court to dismiss the case arguing that it has no bases in law. However ,after listening the submission of both counsel, Justice Amobeda said the court registry will communicate with both parties when his judgement is ready.

New SFU boss promises to tackle Internet fraud
The new Commissioner of Police in charge of the Special Fraud Unit Annex Lagos State, Margaret Ochalla, has promised that her unit will tackle Internet fraud in the country by partnering with Financial Technology and telecommunication companies. Ochalla, who assumed office at the SFU located in the Ikoyi area of the state on Wednesday, also said the unit would partner with all financial institutions to curb the rising spate of Internet fraud in the country. Hence, there will be a renewed and deliberate effort on building human capacity through training and re-training of PSFU’s personnel. The CP, who was redeployed from the Anti-Fraud Section under the Force Criminal Investigation Department, also restated her vision and commitment to the force. She added, “It is my vision to make the Police Special Fraud Unit a leading national, professional and efficient fraud investigation unit that is dynamic, robust and efficient; one that never rests or abdicates its duties in investigating, prosecuting fraud perpetrators and recovery of proceeds of fraud.”
