Four Abuja school students bag UK learners’ award
Four students of the Regent Secondary School, Abuja, Nigeria emerged as top awardees of the Cambridge Learners Awards, The PUNCH reports. A statement by the school on Thursday noted that the four students emerged as top students in different categories. “Mfonmma-Abasi Okon Bassey received the Top In Nigeria award in the IGCSE category for Art & Design, while Daniel Chiemelie Anohu was awarded Top In Nigeria in the Environmental Management IGCSE category. “Khalidah Fatume Amal Doyinsola Usman received the Top In Nigeria award in the History IGCSE category, and Ain Sufiya Binti Mohd Iqbal received the High Achievement award in the Cambridge International AS Level category. “The Regent Secondary School congratulates these outstanding students on their incredible achievements,” the statement read.

The suspects were identified from a video clip of the incident in early May that went viral on social media on Wednesday, causing outrage across the country. “Four main accused arrested in the Viral Video Case,” police in Manipur said on Twitter late Thursday. The video clip showed the women walking naked along a street, being jeered at and harassed by a mob in the state, where the authorities have imposed an internet shutdown. “We will ensure strict action is taken against all the perpetrators, including considering the possibility of capital punishment,” he added. The incident came at the start of the violence in Manipur, which was sparked by a dispute over access to government jobs and other perks.

Reps to investigate contaminated aviation fuel

He said Max Air had reportedly confirmed that it got the contaminated fuel from certain undisclosed aviation refuelling outlets. He said many flight accidents in history were caused by fuel contamination resulting in abnormal operation of aircraft engines and water as a major contaminant. He decried the inability of the NCAA and other associated aviation and oil regulatory agencies to address the increasingly sharp practices in the aviation fueling industry. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has commenced an extensive probe into the recent incident involving water contamination in the fuel tanks of certain aircraft.

Zelensky sacks ambassador to UK after criticism
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sacked Vadym Prystaiko, his country’s ambassador to the UK. Prystaiko had recently criticised the president’s response to a row over gratitude for British military aid. Kyiv gave no official reason for the dismissal but confirmed that Prystaiko was no longer ambassador. He was speaking at the Nato summit after Zelensky criticised the military alliance for delays in making Ukraine a member. Zelensky has fired ambassadors before, dismissing five at once a year ago in what was seen as a reshuffle.

FAAC: FG, States, LGs share N907.054bn June revenue
The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has shared a total sum of N907.054 billion June 2023 Federation Account Revenue to the Federal Government, States and Local Government Councils. The N907.054 billion total distributable revenue comprised distributable statutory revenue of N301.501 billion, distributable Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue of N273.225 billion, Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL) revenue of N11.436 billion and Exchange Difference revenue of N320.892 billion. A total sum of N47.478 billion was shared to the relevant States as 13 percent derivation revenue. This was higher than the sum of N701.787 billion received in the previous month by N451.134 billion. From the N301.501 billion distributable statutory revenue, the Federal Government received N146.710 billion, the State Governments received N74.413 billion and the Local Government Councils received N57.370 billion.

Osabuohien noted that the devaluation of Naira and floating of exchange rate was part of the factors responsible for the new pump price of petrol. “In addition, the nation exports petrol products and in return, brings refined products into the country, thus having ripple effects on the economy.” he said. The economist said that the impacts were so much because those that imported refined products into the county needed to translate it to naira equivalent. Osabuohien added that if the country had not been importing refined products, the effects would not have been much on the economy. He said that the Federal Government needed to put back part of the subsidy removal into economy to ameliorate the ripple effects on the people
