HONG KONGJuly 23, 2024/PRNewswire/ -- CNOOC Limited (the "Company", SEHK: 00883 (HKD Counter) and 80883 (RMB Counter), SSE: 600938) announces today that it has achieved a high yield well in Beibu Gulf, which produces daily over 1,000 cubic meters of oil equivalent. Wushi 16-5 structure is located in Wushi Sag, Beibu Gulf, with an average water depth of approximately 25 meters. The appraisal well WS16-5-4 was drilled and completed at a depth of 4,185 meters, encountering a total of 65 meters oil pay zones. The well was tested to produce over 1,000 cubic meters of oil equivalent per day, the first well of such productivity in Wushi Sag. The successful well proves the promising exploration potential in the mature area of Wushi Sag, which will guide our rolling exploration activities in offshore China."

P20/kilo rice still possible – DA chiefRice prices range from P42 to P70 per kilo at a public market in Manila. “We are trying our best to figure out and think of ways (to achieve the P20 per kilo of rice). Based on the monitoring of the DA in Metro Manila markets, the retail price of local regular milled rice was still sold at prices as high as P50 per kilo; local well-milled rice, P55 per kilo; local premium rice, P58 per kilo and local special rice, P65 per kilo. Imported regular milled rice was still sold for as high as P49 per kilo; imported well-milled rice, P55 per kilo; imported premium rice, P60 per kilo and imported special rice, P65 per kilo. While neither the Chinese foreign ministry nor the Philippines' Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) provided details of the arrangement, Manila said it "will not prejudice our respective national positions". The Chinese foreign ministry confirmed the "temporary arrangement" with the two sides agreeing to jointly manage maritime differences and de-escalate the situation. China claims nearly all of the South China Sea, including the Second Thomas Shoal, where the Philippines maintains a rusty naval ship, the Sierra Madre, that it deliberately grounded in 1999 to reinforce its maritime claims.

Paradise about to be lost
Paradise about to be lostI haven’t been to Boracay in over 10 years. Boracay has been over commercialized, making it a poor choice particularly for foreign visitors looking to have a restful vacation. I have been to a lot of foreign beach resorts and while some may have some hawkers too, it’s not in the number that we have in Boracay. Then again, maybe it doesn’t matter because Boracay is already losing its foreign visitors. Otherwise, that new airport may be too big as visitor numbers drop and Boracay becomes Paradise Lost.

One dead from Nipah virus in India's Kerala state, state health minister says on local TV
(Reuters)Authorities in southern India's Kerala state are taking preventive steps after the death of a 14-year-old boy from the Nipah virus and the identification of 60 persons in the high-risk category, the state's health minister said on Sunday. Parts of Kerala are among those most at risk globally for outbreaks of the virus, a Reuters investigation showed last year. "The infected boy died on Sunday after a cardiac arrest," Veena George, the state health minister told local TV reporters, speaking in the Malayalam language. "There is a minimum chance of an outbreak of Nipah virus at this stage," he said, adding that the situation would be monitored for the next 7-10 days. Nipah has been linked to the deaths of dozens of people in Kerala since its first appearance in the state in 2018.

Possible adjustment on public/private split of new housing supply: development chief
The housing supply target for the public and private housing split, currently at a ratio of 70:30, could be adjusted after the average waiting time for public rental housing (PRH) has shortened, said Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn Hon-ho on Sunday. Her comment came after some suggested the government adjust the supply ratio to 50:50 to revive the property market sentiment. She further revealed that the studies included adjusting the public/private split of new housing supply in New Development Areas to 50:50. Linn referred to a study on the Tsim Bei Tsui/Lau Fau Shan/Pak Nai development plan that was published months ago and noted that the 70:30 ratio of housing supply would not be suitable for such a new development area, which might attract many talents in the future. The development chief acknowledged there is room to adjust the ratio due to the potential oversupply of public housing in the next decade.
