Alegarbes caps swimming campaign with 3rd gold
Alegarbes took off like a torpedo in ruling the men's 50-meter freestyle S14 race in 25.74 seconds in securing his third straight gold medal, duplicating the feat of female teammate Angel Otom last Thursday, in the stint supported by the Philippine Sports Commission. Fellow newcomer Marco Tinamisan sustained his sweet performance with his second straight gold medal, while Gary Bejino finally scored a breakthrough after two runner-up finishes in capturing his first gold in the swimming competition. Tinamisan bagged the gold in the men's 100-meter freestyle S3 event in a winning time of 1:54.15, while Tokyo Paralympic veteran Bejino ruled the men's 100-meter freestyle S6 race in 1:13.80 to raise the Philippine para swimming team's gold total to 12. At press time, the 11th Asean Para Games official website shows that Malaysia has a tally of 24-13-5. Sander Severino bagged four gold medals in chess — the most by any of the 144 Filipino athletes sent to Sukakarta — to lead the Philippines' campaign.

Folks with “braveness” would put up with these poisonous leaders daily as a result of they wanted work and a wage. Worse, these poisonous leaders drive away promising expertise. Micromanagement kills motivation. Moving into fixed conflicts, preventing with presidents or bosses from different departments kills motivation. Spoiling a whole lot of “Motivational clichés” and jargon kills motivation.

Police arrest 13 over HK$1.4 billion money-laundering
Police said on Friday that 13 people were arrested between September last year and May this year for their alleged roles in laundering more than HK$1.4 billion. The arrestees include three core members of the crime syndicate, while the other 10 were arrested on suspicion of lending their bank accounts for money laundering. A police spokesperson said part of the criminal proceedings were swindled from victims in 17 alleged scams, including eight phishing email scams and two investment scams. The force said the syndicate offered payments to the suspects to set up shell corporations or stooge bank accounts and borrowed them to handle the criminal proceedings. Committing money laundering offenses carries a maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment and a fine of HK$5 million.

Russian court jails US basketball star for nine years over drug smuggling
A Russian court on Thursday sentenced US basketball star Brittney Griner to nine years in prison over drug smuggling as US President Joe Biden called the ruling “unacceptable”. (AFP)The court “found the defendant guilty” of smuggling and possessing “a significant amount of narcotics”, judge Anna Sotnikova told a court in the town of Khimki just outside Moscow. “I love my family,” Griner told journalists after the ruling as the six-foot-nine (2.06 metres) athlete was led away by members of Russia’s law enforcement. Griner’s trial accelerated in recent days as the United States and Russia discuss a potential prisoner swap that could involve the basketball star. National Basketball Association and Women’s National Basketball Association leaders said the athlete’s sentence was “unjustified and unfortunate, but not unexpected”.

Pakistan marks 'Exploitation Day' in solidarity with Kashmiris
PAKISTAN observes today, August 5, Youm-e-Istehsal (Day of Exploitation) to protest against the illegal annexation of Kashmir into the Indian territory. The military siege created a humanitarian crisis: Kashmiris faced acute shortages of essential commodities, life-saving drugs and infant food. One dead after 30 arrivals from Africa infected with malaria
A total of 30 people traveling to Hong Kong from Africa were found infected with malaria, the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) said on Thursday. One of them has died from malaria in quarantine, while four others are in serious condition in the intensive care unit. The CHP recorded a total of 30 imported malaria cases involving 30 male patients aged 25 to 57 arriving in Hong Kong from July 1 to August 1, among which 21 of them arrived from Guinea, Africa. It was understood that all the 30 came from the same Chinese company and had worked in Africa and are returning to the mainland via Hong Kong. They were found with malaria when undergoing quarantine at hotels including the Silka Seaview Hotel, Hotel COZi Oasis, and the Panda Hotel.

Not all heroes wear capes, and apparently, they may come in the form of an absolute stranger driving alongside you on the highway. With the driver’s view blocked, the van slowed down but did not pull over immediately to handle the problem. It was at this moment that another vehicle races up - just a couple of inches next to the van. The mysterious good samaritan then leans out and pulls the cardboard sheet off the van’s windshield before speeding back up and driving away using the mid lane. “Things could easily go sideways if any of them panicked,” one netizen commented, while another said the driver could have “caused something bad with good intentions.”

UN chief launches fact-finding mission into Ukraine prison attack
