Kun Maupay Man it Panahon: Parallels of misfortuneWhatever else might be said about Kun Maupay Man it Panahon, whose reputation precedes it having been part of the official selection in Locarno earlier this year, the directorial feature debut of Carlo Francisco Manatad has the advantage of serendipity, opening in theaters nine days after Typhoon Odette laid waste to islands in the Visayas and Northern Mindanao. There are a number of striking scenes, lyric angles that somehow find beauty in devastation, but this is never romanticized. Although here it’s not raindrops keep falling on my head but after the deluge. Part of the sins of cinema seems to suggest, just how resilient the Filipinos should be in order for us to stop using the word resilience? Statements of profundity can be made about the parallels of misfortune, storm and contagion, not to mention latent circuses in town brewing, and makes us wonder if such things really happened in post-Yolanda Tacloban.

Harmie Constantino CONTRIBUTED PHOTOTWO victories to mark a maiden Ladies Philippine Golf Tour (LPGT) campaign proved enough to net Harmie Constantino the Order of Merit (OOM) trophy, but it was her two failed title cracks that should make her tougher and stronger when the pro circuit resumes in 2022. But the challenging season belonged to Constantino, who highlighted her pro debut with a shock two-shot victory over multititled Princess Superal at Eagle Ridge-Aoki last March before play was abruptly suspended due to health concerns. I just came out there and played," said Constantino, who earned P609,750 on two wins to top the OOM derby. But it only showed that there's still a lot more to learn," she added, referring to her runner-up efforts at Riviera-Couples and Midlands. Another wave of Covid-19 cases forced the Tour to take another break, this time a long three-month hiatus.
