By Trevor Mogg January 11, 2022 10:30PMThe International Space Station (ISS) is a marvel of human engineering and ingenuity, as well as scientific achievement and international cooperation. The facility has been orbiting Earth for the last two decades and was recently cleared to continue operating until at least 2030. It’s also the perfect spot for capturing stunning images of Earth — but how about photos of the station itself? Earth and the ISS shot from SpaceX’s Crew Dragon at night. We’ve already seen several of Pesquet’s astonishing flyaround images showing the ISS against the inky blackness of space.

The concept of brain death: Are you dead, if you are brain dead? Doig and E. Burgess’s “Brain death: Resolving inconsistencies in the ethical declaration of death”). Some countries consider brainstem death as death (13% of countries in an international survey, e.g., the UK, Canada, and India), whereas most countries (including the US, Australia, and Japan) require the demonstration of whole brain death (Gardiner et al. Grisolia’s “The World Brain Death Project: Answering the wrong questions”) involving the death of a 13-year-old child following ear, nose, and throat surgery in the US brought into focus the persisting dilemmas regarding the determination of brain death, where the child was kept alive for more than five years after the initial brain death declaration. The World Brain Death Project’s consensus statement in August 2020, acknowledges the “confusion and dilemmas”, “inconsistencies in concept, criteria, practice, and documentation of brain death” and the “wide variance in practice internationally and within countries” and hence recommends abandoning the terms “whole brain death” and “brainstem death”, and calls for consistency in using the term “brain death/death by neurological criteria (BD/DNC)”.

Divorce and living alone could lead to ill health and death for middle-aged men. Those who live alone for more than seven years, and see at least two of their relationships end, have higher levels of inflammation in their body. This biological response to stress is linked to dying earlier, hardened arteries, heart attacks, strokes, cancer and dementia. Divorce is a 'life-altering event' which has previously been linked with poor mental health, cardiovascular disease and early death. The new study, published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, tracked divorces and relationship breakdowns in 4,835 people between 1986 and 2011.

So it’s going to be a global launch and it’s going to be in Europe also,” said Sheth. My colleague Hadlee Simons had a chat with Realme vice-president and international business head Madhav Sheth , who confirmed: The Realme GT 2 Pro global release. But the next release could tidy things up, and the Realme Pad had similar sorts of problems but a low low price. And, there’s more to come in 2022: “…I think yes definitely we’ll see a lot of new tablets coming in different other price segments. Software updates:Not great here, with Sheth not able to commit to Realme taking things further than two years of OS updates.

As Sri Lanka grapples with a severe foreign exchange crunch, high street banks in India have turned cautious and selective about their exposures to the island nation. “We have not put a complete embargo on discounting export bills to Sri Lanka. Among other large banks, HDFC Bank was going slow on handling LCs for exports to Sri Lanka; Axis, which has financed many Indian companies with exports to Sri Lanka, is being selective; while ICICI Bank has cut limits for Sri Lanka along with some of the other smaller countries for quite some time now. “There is nothing wrong with banks in Sri Lanka. They are releasing money only after receiving it from the bank in Sri Lanka,” said a mid-sized exporter.

When very large stars run out of fuel and reach the end of their lives, they can explode in massive, dramatic events called supernovas. Now, astronomers have observed a red supergiant star going supernova for the first time, catching a glimpse of the massive star’s final moments of life. “Direct detection of pre-supernova activity in a red supergiant star has never been observed before in an ordinary Type II supernova. For the first time, we watched a red supergiant star explode!”An artist’s impression of a red supergiant star in the final year of its life emitting a tumultuous cloud of gas. It is of particular interest to researchers as it was so active before exploding, while previously observed red supergiants have been relatively calm before going supernova.

Former cricketer and ‘My Innings’ author Roshan MahanamaDecember 2021 saw Mahanama release the second edition of his autobiography ‘My Innings, Roshan Mahanama – Retired Hurt to the Best View of the Game’, a sequel of sorts to his earlier self-published autobiography ‘Retired Hurt’ in 2001. In short, cricket has always been in Mahanama’s life, and in his blood. When he finished officiating, he received a lot of requests for another run of Retired Hurt, but the publisher of the Sinhala version was no longer in operation.
