July 2, 2021 09:20 pmThe Ministry of Health says that another 635 persons have tested positive for coronavirus, increasing today’s count of new Covid-19 cases to 1,773. The tally of Covid-19 cases reported in the country thus far has climbed to 262,795 with this. Presentably over 30,000 patients infected with the virus are under medical care while total recoveries stand at 229,541. The death toll due to the pandemic in Sri Lanka is 3,157.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Friday issued a statement, saying the current India team which arrived in the island to play three ODIs and three T20Is is a “strong squad”. “Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that despite claims by various parties as reported in the Media, the National White-Ball team of India currently touring Sri Lanka is a strong squad. (Test, ODI, or T20I), and not a ‘second-string team,’ as claimed,” SLC said in an official statement. “This is a second-string Indian team and their coming here is an insult on our cricket. Prosecutors drop Troubles murder cases against ex-British soldiers

Covid vaccines for all over 30 before 31 July: Prez
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the health sector officials to vaccinate all the people aged over 30 in the Western Province before July 31st, the President’s Media Division said today. President Rajapaksa emphasized the need to inoculate a higher percentage of people in all parts of the country before September in a systematic manner following the receival of vaccines that have been ordered. The President expressed confidence that Sri Lanka would soon receive the required amount of AstraZeneca vaccines for the second dose. Accordingly, the President instructed the health officials to make proper arrangements to provide the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine to all those who have received it as the first dose. The commencement of vaccination drive at the hospitals from last Monday has paved the way to provide COVID-19 vaccines to a large number of people in a short period of time.

India s death toll from coronavirus crosses 400,000
India’s official death toll from the coronavirus topped 400,000 on Friday, though experts say the actual number of dead could have reached one million or even higher, with a possible third wave of infections looming. Overnight, the country recorded 853 deaths, taking the toll past the 400,000 mark, according to data from health ministry. India administered an average of 3.5 million doses a day this week, compared with 6.6 million doses last week. Last month, Serum said it planned to increase monthly production to nearly 100 million doses from July. Bharat Biotech now estimates it will make 23 million doses a month.

The group left Sydney on Friday to travel around regional NSW, the day before lockdown rules were enforced.

VIDEO: Man stops runaway boat on Washington state street
The unidentified boat owner had left the yellow speedboat on the side of the road in Everett, Washington. Unfortunately for the man, his boat began rolling down the hill out of control. Luckily for the man and his boat, no cars or trucks were crossing the junction when the runaway boat rolled through. Everett, which is most famous for being the home of Boeing, is in the Pacific north west and an ideal location for a boat owner due to its ready access to the water - with hundreds of miles of sheltered inlets. “While some interpret child labour as the cause of parental poverty, it is illegal for some parents to employ underaged children to earn money. The Minister of Labour further stated that the United Nations has declared 2021 as the Year for the Elimination of Child Labour. The Minister said that the time has come to change the Child and Labour Laws and Orders to prevent the use of child labour as well as child trafficking and to review the dangerous occupational regulations, especially under the Women, Youth and Child Employment Act. De Silva said that child labour in the country is at a very low level at present. The Minister also pointed out that although child labour levels are not even one percent of the population of Sri Lanka, there are still many NGOs that talk about child labor.

Apple Podcasts is the standard podcast app for many iOS users, but recent iOS 14 updates have made it an unbearable mess. Pocket Casts brings together almost every useful feature found across pretty much every other podcast manager out there, plus plenty that are unique. Given how many features Pocket Casts packs in, it seems odd that it lacks this kind of customization. To be clear, it’s still one of the best podcast apps out there, and an excellent alternative to Pocket Casts (let alone the official Apple app). It was updated again on 7/1/2021 with a new competitor pick, iCatcher!, and updated feature information for Pocket Casts, Overcast, Procast, and Breaker.
