A total of 70 new trains will be in operation today, according to the Department of Railways. However, the Deputy General Manager of Railways said that the operation of inter-provincial train services has not been permitted as of yet. Meanwhile, inter-provincial bus services will not be provided as per a decision of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

Darwin's snap lockdown has been extended until Friday after the Chief Minister announced a growing list of exposure venues and hundreds of close contacts have been forced into isolation. That means for Darwin Palms and rural areas, the lockdown is extended to 1pm on Friday. 'His time in a community included an extended period of close contact with seven friends, mainly at a private residence. There is one public close contact exposure site. The second casual contact site is the budding store on Bogut Road, Saturday 26 June between 10am and 10:15am.

Sri Lanka has recommenced the administration of the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine to all those above the age of 70 and living in Colombo 01 to Colombo 15. Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Municipal Council Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni told The Morning that 10,500 people are eligible to obtain the second dose of the AstraZeneca Vaccine. An SMS will be sent to those who are eligible to obtain the vaccine and entrance to the vaccination center is only permitted upon producing the SMS, NIC, and the Vaccination Card. The second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine will be administered at two vaccination centers in Colombo on Monday (28). Those from Colombo North and Colombo Central are requested to visit the Sugathadasa Stadium premises while Colombo East, Colombo West and Borella residents may visit the Sithumina Community Center in Kirulapone.

Sri Lanka, today (June 28), will commence genetic analysis research on the coronavirus variant that have been identified from the country. The research will be carried out with the data provided by the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health. The results of the research will be released within a period of 07 days, according to Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, the Director of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Several persons infected with the Delta (India) variant of the coronavirus have been identified in Sri Lanka. Dr. Jeewandara further stated that the Delta variant is spreading rapidly in those identified areas as the Delta variant is twice as prevalent as the Alpha (UK) variant.

A person has been arrested for presenting fake checks and defrauding Rs. The Police Media Spokesman further stated that the suspect has been arrested by the Commercial and Financial Crimes Unit of the CID. The arrested suspect is due to be produced before court today (28). On April 12, a group of suspects posing as employees of the steel company had presented fake checks to the bank and obtained Rs. The Police Media Spokesman further stated that this is the first such crime in Sri Lanka by printing fake checks.

Authorities have taken steps to increase bus and train services from today (28). Accordingly, 70 new trains will be operated today, the Railway Department said. Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the suspect was arrested on a charge of criminal coercion.
