So I thought it’d be a good idea to sign up for Amazon Prime Video a few months ago. No, the biggest problem with Prime Video isn’t the content, but rather everything else around the service. Probably the main issue with Prime Video is just how terrible the content discovery is. Meanwhile, Prime Video shows a random collection of content including Hell Boy 2, Yu-Gi-Oh, and kids’ cartoons. Meanwhile, Prime Video can’t be bothered to do this and simply shows the most popular content in general.

Shooter Tehani Egodawela has become the third Sri Lankan to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Sri Lanka said the Olympic Solidarity/International Olympic Committee (OS/IOC) has confirmed a slot being allocated for Egodawela. Boris Johnson will be forced to decide on child jabs
Boris Johnson will be forced to decide if children as young as 12 should receive the coronavirus vaccination by the end of next month. In April, Oxford University paused trials of its coronavirus vaccine in children as regulators probed the jab's link to rare blood clots. Giving children coronavirus vaccines is morally complicated, and UK health chiefs have already said it would only be done if it was deemed necessary. Prof Okkenhaug said the decision on whether to give children jabs is a 'difficult question' which requires balancing wider benefits against the direct ones for children. Meanwhile figures also showed a total of 24,478,052 in the UK had now received both doses of the Covid vaccine.

Ayurvedic staff to be trained on Covid-19 treatment
The Ministry of Health has decided to provide special training on Covid-19 treatment methods for the Ayurvedic staff who have been assigned for Covid-19 treatment services. The training programme is scheduled to begin in the next two days. The decision was made at the COVID-19 Special Performance Review Committee meeting which was held yesterday (28) under the patronage of the Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi at the Ministry of Health. The committee also decided to launch a vaccination program targeting the garment factory employees in the trade zones in various parts of the country. Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Major General Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director General of Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Secretaries to the State Ministry, Dr. Saman Rathnayake and Dr. Kumari Weerasekara and other health officials were present at this meeting.

Suspension on vehicle revenue license issuance in WP extended
The suspension on issuing vehicle revenue licenses in the Western Province has been extended until June 06, 2021, the Department of Government Information has announced. The decision was reached taking into account the prevailing pandemic situation in the country, the Chief Secretary of Western Province said in a notice issued today (May 29). Accordingly, fines for non-renewal will not be charged until June 30, the Chief Secretary noted. However, the vehicle revenue license can be obtained online via the official website of the Office of the Provincial Commissioner of Motor Traffic (Western Province): http://www.motortraffic.wp.gov.lk/Authorities had previously suspended the issuance of vehicle revenue licenses in the Western Province until May 28.

PM inspects coastal area affected by X-Press Pearl debris
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today (May 29) made an inspection visit to the coastal area in Uswetakeiyawa affected by the debris washed up from the fire-ravaged container ship ‘X-Press Pearl,’ the PM’s Office stated. A massive fire erupted in the cargo vessel ‘X-Press Pearl’ carrying Nitric Acid and other chemicals on May 20. ‘X-Press Pearl’ – registered under the flag of Singapore – had departed with 1,486 containers with 25 tons of Nitric Acid, several other chemicals and cosmetics from the port of Hazira, India on May 15. Debris from the fire-stricken cargo ship washed up on the shores of Negombo in Ja-Ela, Kepumgoda, Seththappaduwa and Dungalpitiya areas. Although the beaches are already covered in oil, the biggest problem at the moment is debris, mostly made up of tiny plastic granules, which has now spread along the west coast of Sri Lanka, the authorities have stressed.

City in Japan donates ambulance to SL
Mayor of Kawaguchi City of the Saitama Prefecture in Japan Nobuo Okunoki donated a high-quality used ambulance to Sri Lanka. The Mayor was fulfilling a request made by Sri Lanka Ambassador Sanjiv Gunasekara during a meeting held regarding the donation of a Fire Truck to Sri Lanka few months ago. SaiNet Corporation, an IT company in Kawaguchi City and the Rotary Club of Saitama prefecture fully sponsored the cost of shipping the ambulance to Sri Lanka. Kawaguchi city organized a formal handover of the ambulance at a ceremony attended by the Mayor, many well-wishers, Saitama prefecture politicians and the press. Kawaguchi city Mayor, city officials and the Sainet Corporation gave assurances to work with the Sri Lanka Embassy for further cooperation in future.

President makes key Covid-19 decisions
Following yesterday’s (28) meeting with the Special Committee on Covid-19, the President’s Media Division announced a series of decisions made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in view of the current situation in the country. Despite initial plans to relax travel restrictions on selected days during the restrictive period, the President has now decided not to relax restrictions until 07 June. The President has instructed authorities to distribute essential items to the public through a mobile truck service during this travel restricted period, as only the personnel who are engaged in essential services are permitted to leave their homes for their duties during the travel restricted period. With regard to the vaccination drive, the President has instructed health authorities to administer the second dose of Sinopharm vaccine after a month (08 June) at the same location where the people received their first jab on 08 May. The President also emphasized the need for the vaccination programme to continue in a systematic manner in the districts which have been identified and prioritized by the health sector.

EU drug regulator approves Pfizer vaccine for children aged 12-15
The EU’s drug watchdog on Friday approved the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus jab for 12- to 15-year-olds, the first vaccine to get the green light for children in the bloc. The vaccine was “well tolerated” in children and there were no “major concerns” in terms of side effects, the Amsterdam-based European Medicines Agency said. Germany has said it will start vaccinating children over the age of 12 from June 7 following the authorisation by the EMA. The United States and Canada have both already authorised the vaccine for children of the same age. “The vaccine was well tolerated” among children for side effects, and they were “not raising major concerns at this time”.

Four people died in Colombia during anti-government protests on Friday, as the Latin American country marked a full month of the violent demonstrations that have claimed dozens of lives. But Bogota, while conceding individual bad apples, claims leftist guerrillas and dissident FARC fighters have infiltrated the demonstrations to foment violence and vandalism. On Monday, the White House had urged Colombia to find more than 100 people reported missing as a result of the unrest. If there are no talks, the spiral of violence will continue and unfortunately more people could die,' Ospina said. Amid singing and music during demonstrations in capital Bogota, protesters told Reuters they would keep marching even after a month of demonstrations.
